Primary 4

As part of our work on Scottish inventors, Primary 4 have been learning all about John Logie Baird, who invented the first television. We learnt lots of facts about his life and wrote a report on what we found.

We really enjoyed creating Baird’s ‘Televisor’ with junk materials (photos to follow). You can play games and learn more about John Logie Baird at http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/famouspeople/john_logie_baird/.

Primary 4 keeping safe online

Primary 4 had a challenge in Health today to create a message using the letters S A F E which would remind us how to stay safe on the Internet.  Their safety advice works just as well in real life too.

Here are some of the best examples:

Strangers can be mean

Avoid them

Friends only

Everyone be nice

By Charis

Safe around strangers

Ask permission to go online

Friends you can trust, but not all the time,

Emotions- don’t let people be mean to you.

By Lewis and Lydia

Strangers are danger

Ask your Mum and Dad before saying yes

Friendly words

Everyone is dangerous when you don’t know them

By Hannah

Strangers- don’t trust them if you don’t know them

Ask permission to go online

Friends- you need to see if they will be good

Emotions- don’t let them hurt your feelings.

By Samantha and Sophie.

Strangers – don’t trust them

Ask to go online – for permission

Friendly – never be friends with strangers

Emotion – don’t let people be mean to you

By Louisa and Hayden.

Primary 2

We have been learning about a famous Scottish inventor called Kirkpatrick MacMillan who invented the first pedals for bicycles.  We learned lots of interesting facts about him and also learned about the ways that we remember him today.  We used line to draw pictures of Kirkpatrick MacMillan Bridge and also of Courthill Smithy where he worked as a blacksmith.  The pedals that Kirkpatrick MacMillan invented did not work in the same way as the pedals we have today.  Can you find out how the pedals worked?

P7 Shelter Challenge

In Technologies this afternoon we had a design challenge to make a waterproof shelter for 2 Playmobile figures.  It had to be stable and strong so that Miss McLennan could not blow it over.  Here we are, hard at work…

Weekly Blog from P6

This week we have been learning poetry! We were studying the Green man poem and enjoyed making up our own poems. For homework we have been learning Scottish poems for our Scots Assembly.  We have also been learning and practising ‘Strip the Willow’ and we hope to perform this at the Scots Assembly. For our Scottish topic we have been learning about Lord Joseph Lister. We have been very busy since we came back from our holidays!

Primary 3

Primary 3 had a fantastic trip to New Lanark last week.

Miai T said “I liked dressing up in the old school clothes”.

Edward said ” I loved the Annie McLeod ride.”

Jessica said ” I enjoyed seeing how the Mill workers used to live.”

Ewen L said:  ” It was fun seeing the River Clyde.”

P7

P7 have been tired this week after lots of long lies in bed but there has been lots of learning!

Shannon – I learned how to explore fractions better this week

Shea – this week I have been learning to add and subtract decimals.

Sophie – In P.E we started to learn more about tennis especially the forehand technique.

Primary 3

As part of our Scottish topic P3 have been learning all about Robert Owen this week and  researching all the good things he did for the Mill workers of New Lanark. We created a timeline of how our day compared to the pauper apprentices in the Mill and did line drawings of the Mill houses. We are going on a trip on Monday to visit the New Lanark Heritage Centre and are very excited about this!

Primary 1

This week, Primary 1 have been creating pictures of the Forth Rail Bridge. We used strips of red card to make the shape of the bridge. We thought it was going to be tricky but were so surprised at how easy it was!

We also learned that..

  • The Forth Rail Bridge is next to Deep Sea World
  • There are lots of fish in the water
  • It is next to the Forth Road Bridge
  • Lots of men died when they were building the bridge.

We are looking forward to learning about more Scottish things next week!
