P5: Week Beginning 7th February 2022

A great start to the week in Primary 5. We have been building on our writing skills, completing Information Reports about Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

We have also been sharing our Numeracy learning, creating a bank of multiplication strategies that we feel confident using.

Primary 2

This week Primary 2 had great fun taking part in the winter sports day. Here are some pictures of us in action

.

In maths we started to look at data handling and had a go at collecting our own data. We recapped how to use tally marks and then created a few pictograms to display our data. Super Work Primary 2!!!

Primary 5 News !

Hello,

We have had a busy and fun week.

We started the week by celebrating Chinese New Year through different art activities.  There were fantastic moving dragons made and beautiful pastel drawings of tigers.

In reading, we have continued to make and change our predictions as we read more of ‘Christophe’s Story’.  Today we had a go at ‘hot seating’ where we have a chance to turn into the character and the rest of the class ask us questions.  Well done to those who volunteered to have a go, they did really well!

In maths we have continued to explore more about fractions.  We have been using the cuisenaire rods to represent different fractions.  They have helped us to understand that the size of the fraction is smaller when the denominator is bigger as it has been split into more parts.  We are becoming more confident in using the language: halves, quarters, thirds, fifths, sixths, etc.  After watching a story called ‘The Lion’s Share’, we had a go at solving some fraction problems from the story.  During this task we even started talking about sixty fourths and even smaller fractions! Take a look at some of our pictorial problem solving:

Weekly update from Primary 7

We have been rounding off our Scottish topic by writing information reports on Scottish animals, the life of Robert Burns and Scottish musicians from the past.  Mrs Andison has been impressed by our report writing skills and how they have progressed over the weeks.  We are becoming more confident.

In Numercy we have been recapping measuring in millimetres, centimetres and metres. We were outside measuring as well as inside, and are improving our accuracy.  We have also been converting a variety of measurements.

In art we have been using oil pastels to mix the colours we saw in some thistles.  The results were very good.

In Science we have investigated echolocation and its purpose for different animals.

As well as all our learning, we have been planning a winter sports event for the whole school to take part in.

It’s certainly been a bust week in P7 and it’s about to get busier as we are stating to get Teams meetings and visits from staff at Broxburn Academy as the  start of our transition. Exciting times.

Have a great week ahead.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning how to create information texts during writing time. This week we wrote about animals living on Katie Morag’s island including a sheep and a seal.  We had to include a title, an illustration with labels, and a fact about them. We are becoming more confident at sounding out words.

We have also been learning French with our teddy, Camembear, practising greetings, how to say yes and no, and how we are.

Primary 6 Weekly Update

This week we completed our Scottish Contexts topic. We recited our Scottish poems in front of our peers, where two winners were chosen to perform in front of the whole school. We all did a great job and are so proud of our representatives!

In Numeracy, we have been working on adding and subtracting decimals using mental calculations and column sums/chimney sums/formal written method. We have grown in confidence in this across the week, where we were then able to answer and create our own word problem examples for our peers.

We began our new topic for the remainder of the term, where we will investigate Body Systems. We began this through sharing what we know as a whole class and coming up with questions we wanted to investigate across the coming weeks.

In Health and Wellbeing,  we looked into what a friendship and/or a relationship is, what makes us a good friend and how to maintain each of these. We collectively created a ‘P6 Friendship Soup’ which incorporated all of our ideas for maintaining positive relationships and friendships. This is now on display in our classroom as a daily reminder.

Have a lovely weekend!

Hello from P5!

After exploring Scots language in Reading and some of the unusual characters from ‘Blethertoon Braes’, Primary 5 have started to create their own character.  They have a designed their character using a range of materials and made a plan for a descriptive piece.  We will be trying hard to use lots of Scots language when we finish the writing next week.

In P.E we have continued to improve our fitness with a range of strength and stamina exercises.  Next week we will be starting to create our own fitness routine in groups using music.

In Maths, we are becoming more confident counting in fractions.  We are also using arrays and skip counting to solve multiplication problems.

We were introduced to our new reading book ‘Christophe’s Story’  after making a prediction using only the title and the front cover.  We have now discovered that that the main character is from Rwanda.  Today, we learned a little more about life in Rwanda to help us understand where he has come from.

We hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Primary 2 – Friday 28th January

Primary 2 have had a super week! Well Done everybody for practicing your Scots poetry. You recited them with confidence .

We have been learning about Space. We designed and decorated a Solar System. We also designed rockets to take us to Space, thinking about what to pack, the features of a rocket and creating these using our knowledge of 3D shape.  Take a look at our Seesaw page for some photos of our creations.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!
