Primary 3

For our topic Primary 3 are comparing the Island of Coll in Scotland with Madagascar. We have been becoming familiar with using an atlas to look up countries. We have been using the index and coordinates to help us. We enjoyed working with a partner setting challenges to find different countries in the atlas!

P1/2 Barnaby Bear walk

On Monday we went on a walk around Pumpherston with our new visitor Barnaby Bear.  We took him to see the sights of Pumpherston.  He had a shot on the swings at the park and saw some lovely spring flowers as well as finding some good places to eat.  Barnaby will be with us for some time so look out for him in other places.

Primary 4

As part of our new topic, Primary 4 have been learning all about climates around the world and how they affect the growth of food. We researched and described what the weather is like in polar, desert, tropical and temperate climates. We learnt that Scotland has a temperate climate, which has mild summers and cold winters.

We used our ICT and reading skills to research which foods are commonly produced in Scotland. We found that although our climate is not hot enough to grow some of the fruits that we like to eat, we can still grow lots of different things like potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and berries.  We are hoping to select and grow some of the fruit and vegetables we have found in our own school grounds this term!

P6

Here are the P6 winners of the Commonwealth Games Poster competition.  Miss Speirs found it so difficult to pick one winner we got special permission from Game On Scotland to send more entries in. Well done to the winners. A selection of other posters will be on display in the school for everyone to see. The winning posters will be sent to be displayed in the Athletes’ Village for the competitors and officials who stay in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games this summer.

P6 Weekly Blog

To finish off our Health and Wellbeing topic about Living and Growing, we made Reebop babies.  We had to sort out the genetic code for our baby then we had to check what features the baby had and then we had to make our baby. We hope you like them.

P1 Reflective Learning

This week, P1 were looking at our plants to see how they fared over the past few weeks. Each group started off with a healthy plant, and then we changed the way we looked after them to see what would happen.

Group 1 – Gave the plant everything it needed. We found that the plant grew taller, and that buds were slowly starting to open.

Group 2 – Took away light. We found that the plant stopped growing and the leaves drooped.

Group 3 – Took away water. We found that the petals and leaves dried up. It was a very thirsty plant!

Group 4 – Took away soil. We found that the plant had drowned as the water did not have anything to soak it up.

We were very close with our predictions! We have enjoyed learning about life cycles this term.

Also, a big congratulations to Summer Reid, who won our Commonwealth Art poster competition!

Til next week…

Art that looks good enough to eat!

Despite being a short week we have been very, very busy!

Art and Design

This week in art we have designed and made our favourite meal. You probably wouldn’t want to try to eat these meals as they are made from paper. Here are a few of our tastiest looking treats!

Numeracy and Maths

This week we continued to learn more about operations (+, -, x and /). We talked about function machines. On Thursday we all completed number triangles, which was fun. You can make your own – if you want to know how leave us a comment!

Achievements

Jordan was our winner for the Commonwealth Game art competition. This means that Jordan’s picture will hang in a bedroom in the athletes village. We wonder if Usain Bolt might be the lucky athlete who gets to look at Jordan’s picture.

P6 Weekly Blog

Well done to our  talented P6 gymnasts: Eilidh, Jamie Lee and Niamh  for their fantastic display last week!  They were so good perhaps we will see them at the next Commonwealth Games!

Talking of the Commonwealth Games here are some of our pictures which we hope will be picked to be entered into the competition to be displayed at the atheletes village during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July! Good luck everyone!

P1 Feel the Pinch

This week, Primary 1 have been getting to grips with clay and making pinch pots. First, we made our clay nice and soft, then rolled it into a ball. Then, we made a hole in the middle with our thumb and pinched the clay around the sides to make the pot. We have left them to dry and are looking forward to seeing how they look on Wednesday. If you’d like to try to make pinch pots at home, you can do it using clay or salt dough!

Happy Holiday Weekend 🙂
