Primary 4
Primary 4 have been learning all about the digestive system. After discussing all the different stages involved in turning our food into nutrients and energy for our body, we created storyboards to describe the journey a piece of food makes.
Gymnastics display February 2014
Here is a link to the video of the spectacular display given by our Gymnastics club on Feb 14th. The show took our breath away! Well done to the performers and Mrs Pender for all your hard work.

P6 weekly blog
Our new topic is rivers. Next week we will be going on a trip to investigate the River Almond. We are going to look at the river at Almondell Country Park and also at Crammond in Edinburgh. Please make sure you have welly boots and appropriate clothing because we will be outside all day. We will be very tired that night.
P6 have done wonderful imaginative writing about The Beast. It was difficult to choose, but this week’s star writer is Dolce. Well done everyone.
Primary 2
Well done to primary 2 who were all confident performers in their assembly on Thursday. Cerys, Lachlan, Erin, Rebecca, Calum and Erin used mime, movement and expression very well to adopt their roles while Oliwia was super in role as Katie Morag using her voice, movement and expression. Kamila was an excellent narrator for the short drama . We now look forward to beginning our new topic.
P1 Say Goodbye to Sochi
This week saw the end of the Winter Olympics in Sochi! We have been following the Olympics and Miss McLaughlin was so impressed with how interested we were in the events!
We wrote about Winter Olympic events during our Big Write sessions, watched clips of our favourite events (bobsleigh, ice skating and curling) and used mime to show events during Drama time (ask us to teach you our 4-man bobsleigh mime!) We have enjoyed watching the different events and they have made us interested in learning them ourselves! Perhaps we’ll have skeleton or ice skating champions in the future!
With the Winter Olympics finished, next up are Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games and Rio de Janeiro for the FIFA World Cup! Miss McLaughlin has a feeling P1 will be spending a lot of time thinking about Brazil 😉 ..

Pumpherston & Uphall Station’s Got Talent!
P7 have been busy in school and at home preparing for next weeks class assembly. You are in for a treat. An afternoon of musical, dance, maths and sports talent!
We have also been working hard learning about classifying angles, estimating them and then trying to measure using a protractor. We made posters about the different angles for homework. It’s quite tricky trying to use a protractor at first.

Primary 5 are still busy learning
Interdisciplinary Learning
This week we have started to learn about Kenya. We have looked at where Kenya is located, using both Google Earth and an atlas. We found out that Kenya is in Africa. We also found out a few other facts and have made a quiz for you to try at home. Click here and then type in the room number – 725865.
Art and Design
We have been thinking about our learning a few weeks ago – when we learned about straight and curved lines. This morning we used our skills in drawing straight and curved lines to draw bottles. We used both normal pencil and rainbow pencil to compare these resources. Here are a few photos of our work.
Nia, Carys, Emma C and Kaitlyn set up an art table in our class – we are very lucky to have such enterprising girls in the class. Here it is.
Miss Anderson thinks that this is a great idea but that we will have to keep it a bit tidier!
Numeracy
In maths we have been finding the difference and adding. The Pyramids have also been counting up in lots of 5 and 10, not starting from 0. This means that we have been learning new number patterns. An example is counting on in 5s from 2;
2,7,12, 17, 22, 27, 32, 37…

Primary 3
For our topic Primary 3 are comparing the Island of Coll in Scotland with Madagascar. We have been becoming familiar with using an atlas to look up countries. We have been using the index and coordinates to help us. We enjoyed working with a partner setting challenges to find different countries in the atlas!
P1/2 Barnaby Bear walk
On Monday we went on a walk around Pumpherston with our new visitor Barnaby Bear. We took him to see the sights of Pumpherston. He had a shot on the swings at the park and saw some lovely spring flowers as well as finding some good places to eat. Barnaby will be with us for some time so look out for him in other places.
