Primary 3 have been busy writing letters to Magale School in Uganda this week, introducing ourselves to the children there and telling them all about our lives at Pumpherston. Susan and Robert Comrie are going to send the letters for us and organise for a child of the same age to write back to us. We are very excited to hear about what life is like in Magale!
P5 weekly blog
In maths I enjoyed multiplying a two digit number by a three digit number, for example 20 x 300. I liked this because I am getting so confident with my mental maths it is helping me in other areas of maths. Hannah, Sophie M, Callum, Kadan and Ella.
In PE I enjoyed doing gymnastics when we had all of the equipment out and we got a turn at each one. Lewis P, Julia and Louisa.
I enjoyed science because we made parachutes with our partners.(Sophie C) We were investigating friction: air resistance. This experiment was won by Angel and Aiden who designed the parachute which came to the ground the slowest.
I have enjoyed doing health and well being where we have been taking part in class discussions to learn how to be safe with drugs and alcohol. Â I now know how to be safe with these when I am older. Cameron, Courtney, Jack H and Jack R.
Four people were sent to Mr Eagleson to recite their Scots poem: Shannon, Lydia, Rory and Samantha. Â Well done to Shannon who is our class winner!
See you all tomorrow at our Scots Assembly at 1.30!
Primary 4
This week, Primary 4 have been building on the Scots’ vocabulary they learned last week.
We used Scots’ body parts, items of clothing and some adjectives to write a simple description of ourselves.
Can you guess who is being described below?
‘A hae broon een an blonde herr. Am wearin’ a yella an blue goon. A hae lang black bitts. Am a totie wee teacher.’
Five house points to whoever guesses first!
Until next time..

Primary 6 learn about the rivers in Scotland
This week we have been thinking about what we know about rivers and what we want to know. We learned about different rivers in Scotland and made our own maps of Scotland to show the main rivers. We also wrote descriptions for a partner to work out what river was being described.
Numeracy
This week the Blue and Green groups have been dividing with and without remainders. We have also started to learn about factors and will be revisiting this next week.
The Red group are sharing equally and continuing to practise times tables.Â
Literacy
This week we have been developing our inference skills in reading. We are getting really good at using clues to learn more about the story or about the characters. We also recited our Scots poems. Our class winners were Nia, Jordan and Emma C.Â
Primary 1 keeping safe with Hector
Today we have been learning about keeping safe on the Internet. We know  to use nicknames and not our real names.
by Flower pick, Catlady, Elsa, Super crab, Superdoggirl, Batman boy, Horsy girl, Mickey mouse, Super zoom, Superboy, Mermaid, Supercatwoman, Breakdance Boy, Â Jellyfish boy, Blue fish and Mrs Hull.
Can you guess who is who in Primary 1?

In Primary 5 we have been scientists!
Aim: to do an experiment to investigate friction: air resistance.
Challenge: can you make an o ring plane which can fly the furthest?
Once the design had been modified we tested everyone’s planes. Callum and Sophie C designed the o ring plane which managed to fly the furthest!
Primary 4
Primary 4 have been learning some Scots’ words. This week, we learned how to name and describe some items of clothing. See if you can guess what some of our items are…
‘Bonnie blue an purpie bunnie baffies’ Mya
‘Muckle rid stampy bitts’ Andrew
‘Groovy green an yella breeks’ Daniel
‘Orange an purpie Scottish goon’ Ula
Pop in to see our Scots’ washing line 🙂
Until next time…
Primary 4
Primary 1
As part of our Scots week, Primary 1 have been exploring Scottish stories and singing Scottish songs.
We read ‘Katie Morag and the Tiresome Ted’ and used the book to inspire our learning this week. Â We had lots of fun taking on the role of Katie Morag in Drama, showing her behaviour and emotions in different parts of the story. Â When Katie Morag’s teddy got tossed into the sea we used our writing skills to create a poster to help find him for her. Today in Art we had to look carefully at the illustrations of Katie Morag’s island to create a stormy sea picture. We had to mix lots of different colours of paint and use wavy brush strokes to make the dark sky and choppy waves.
In Maths, we have been using counters and other objects to find different ways of making 3, 4 and 5. We managed to write sums to match the number facts we found.
Primary 7
Literacy
Literacy has been a little bit different this week as we have been writing, reading and listening in Scots. We are preparing to perform a very special dance for you all and we have had to follow the steps to the dance in Scots words. We played a fun game of ‘Simon Says’ in Scots and learned lots of new vocabulary. In writing we had to add the speech, thought and caption text to ‘The Broons or and ‘Oor Wullie’ comic strip. We are looking forward to creating our own next week.
Numeracy
In maths everyone has been focusing on the topic ‘Time’. Most of us are very confident using 24 hour time so we have started trying to solve time problems using different types of timetables. James, Finlay C, Finlay B and Kristinna got 10/10 for their CLIC challenge after a long break away from completing one. Well done! I’m looking forward to more people with full marks next week.
Expressive Arts
Our focus for Scots week is Scottish solo artists or Groups.  We researched some Scottish figures and created factfiles about them. Lots of people chose Calvin Harris or The Proclaimers.  We have been listening to a selection of music from Scottish singers and groups then we talked about how we felt about the music. Â

Primary 6 Poets
Literacy
This week we have taken home our Scots Poems to learn for the whole school recital. We chose from a selection of 3 poems and Miss Anderson is really looking forward to our class performances next week.
We also learned more about similes and metaphors, writing a few of our own. Some of these were very effective and others were funny!
Our spelling words this week were Scots words, some of which we already knew and some which we had to learn the English translations.
Numeracy
This week the Red group have been learning more about multiplying by 3. Next steps will be to learn more about multiplying by 6 and then 9.
The Blue and Green groups have been dividing, learning a new strategy (repeated subtraction using a number line). This has proven to be very successful and next steps will be to use the same process for numbers that are not multiples (ie numbers that will leave a remainder).
Our Maths Talk was fun this week – we had a quick reminder of the different ways we could share our learning.
Science
Do you know how food is digested? Primary 6 do because we learned more about the digestive system this week.
Fun Fact – Sloths have a very slow digestive process and they can go a whole week without going to the toilet!
We also learned more about the process of breathing.
Expressive Arts
Our focus for Scots week is the Scottish Colourists. We have learned a little about Samuel Peploe but are going to learn much more next week.
We still enjoy learning Indian dancing and will have two more weeks of dance before moving on.
We have a new Class Dojo high scorer – well done Ellie. Last term we enjoyed a games day (thanks to Emma C) and are looking forward to an Anne Frank day (Nia), extra Art (Ellie) and Football day (Emma S). Â Nia is our high scorer of the week.
Fingers crossed for calmer weather next week.
