In Maths this week, Primary 1 have been learning how to order numbers within 20 from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. We have also been practising adding and our double number facts.
We learned how to write stories in writing this week. We had to choose our own character for the story and described what happened to them. They were very imaginative!
After our walk to the Post Office last Monday, we drew a map in class to show the route we took. We had to remember all the things we passed along the way and make sure that we drew it from a bird’s eye view. We used the photographs taken on our walk to help us. Our next challenge is to make a 3D model of the route!
We had lots of funny faces in school today, as part of our mission to raise money for Comic Relief on Red nose Day.
Both Bake sales ran out of stock before they ran out of customers, raising almost £100 from the sale of cupcakes, macaroons and rocky road.  Here are some pictures of the new members of staff on duty today:
We’ll add more pictures and the final total of the money raised next week! Well done everyone, you looked very funny!
Last Wednesday P6 were privileged to have a visit from Rev. Povey. We had invited him along to interview him about the Bible, our current RME topic, and to find out a bit about him and his job.
Look in the comments from P6 to see what we learned!
Last week, Primary 4 continued their farming learning and produced posters which told us about foods that are imported into Scotland (flown in).
We looked at coconuts, bananas, coffee, cocoa beans and citrus fruits. These products cannot be grown here in Scotland because our climate is just not right. That’s why we import them in. We are going to have a discussion about the effect that food miles like these have on the environment.
If you’d like to find out how far your food has travelled, the website below calculates food miles for you:
Our homework this week is to look at packets/food labels around the house and see where different products come from. Please, if possible, bring in the packaging so we can add it to our display. They can be products grown at home, or imported in.
Last week we watched some people doing an African dance on Youtube  and we used this as a stimulus for creating our own dances. So far we have put together a two step dance sequence. We will be building onto our dance routine this week. We are also doing dance with Miss Pender.  Shannon’s group got to share their dance routine ideas with the class.
Our Africa influence also went into our drama lesson this week as we used a short film about lions as a stimulus for our drama lesson. We were learning to take on the features of lions and demonstrate this by moving like them. Our next steps is to work as a group and show a pride of lions and how they react towards one and other.
In music we were learning to play the xylophones by ear. We were listening to the ‘Skye Boat Song’ and we were trying to work out what notes we needed to play to create the tune.
P7 have been learning about the history of the First Chinese Emperor and his Terraccotta Warriors.  We are using this context to improve our art skills.  We focused on line and shape this week to begin detailed pencil drawings of the Warriors. Next week we are going to look at form when we create 3D models using clay.
This week Primary 1 and 1/2 went on a walk to the Post Office. We posted a letter to Postman Pat and learned about what happens to a letter at the Post Office. We bought a stamp for our letter and saw the scales that are used to weigh letters and parcels. We also saw big sacks at the back of the Post office where letters go so that they can be taken to the sorting office later.
In Art this week, we have been learning how to create observational drawings. We had to look carefully at the shape and lines of pieces of fruit and vegetables to draw them in detail. We can’t wait to practise our drawing skills again next week!
We received a lovely thank you card in the post from the Friends of St John’s Hospital, thanking us for our contribution to their fundraising. Our choir sang Christmas Carols in the foyer of St John’s on December 9th and £108.10 was raised during our singing! The charity is dedicated to promoting the comfort and welfare of patients, staff and visitors at St John’s hospital in Livingston.  Our support will help them to provide services throughout St John’s for the benefit of all patients, staff and visitors.
We are very proud to be able to help such a worthwhile cause in our local community. Well done to the choir for singing so well!
“ItWe can’t believe that it has been almost a fortnight since our class assembly. We had such a great time writing and performing our assembly to the audience. The class enjoyed performing our song about the Amazon called The River is Moving. We hope our audience enjoyed all the songs.
Today we should be at Broxburn Academy for a STEM day. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Because of the snow this event has been cancelled so we have been having fun with our own STEM day in class. So far we have created layered images using computer technologies and built machines using K’Nex. So far the day has been a big thumbs up. We still have a few more activities to complete.
In Maths news the Blue and Green groups have been learning about BODMAS. We know that we look for brackets first and then multiplication and division. If you don’t follow the BODMAS rules then you will get the WRONG answer most of the time. The Red group have been working on rounding. We are all very good at rounding down to the nearest 10 and will be working on rounding up.
With Mrs McCulloch we have been learning about drawing, painting and using ink. Miss Anderson can’t believe what talented artists we are. Here are a few examples of our beautiful work.

The Jaguars are now reading Vicky Angel by Jacqueline Wilson. Some of the group thought that this is a book for girls only but now someone in the group is desperate to read ahead! It just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover!
“It’s too good!” review by Ryan
We love getting comments so if you enjoyed reading this please leave us a message!
Last week Primary 5 were very busy learning about lots of different things.
We combined Topic, Art and Technologies to design and draw our own landscape pictures. We had to search for images taken in Sierra Leone and then use our skills in drawing. Most of us enjoyed using curved and straight lines to recreate our chosen scene.
In PE with Mrs Pender we have been learning a new dance and we think that the music is really good. Unfortunately we are not allowed to share the name of the song but it is a very upbeat song and  we have lots of great moves. One of our moves is to stop with our hands pressed against a wall, another is to drop down to the floor. We can’t give away any more clues! We are looking forward to starting African Dance with Mrs Campbell.
Our Maths theme is division and each group is learning to divide numbers. It can be quite tricky to divide and learning times tables off by heart really helps to make dividing easier. We have been learning different strategies to help (but will keep learning our tables).
We all have a Didbook diary that we can add our reflections to. This means that we do not need to write in our Reflection Jotters anymore. We also have a profile that we can update to show what we want to learn in the future.
It is not long until we head off to camp. Kingswing here we come…
