Christmas Fayre

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to the success of our Christmas Fayre on Friday. We raised a grand total of £ 1036.47! This money will go to the PSFA and school fund to pay for all sorts of activities and items over the whole year. We hope you enjoyed the afternoon. Here are some of the photos of the event.

P4 Amphitheatre Update

Our hard work is really starting to take shape now… The stage is almost completed and we have one full wall up 🙂

After Tuesday (we will be out on Tuesday afternoon as well as the usual Monday), we will be taking a break from our outdoor project until the New Year. The poor grass needs some time to settle, as it appears to be the consistency of cold custard at the moment!

We have also made our distance slab, which Romans used as a record of which Legion created something and the year that they did it.

Unfortunately, Miss McLaughlin broke it when trying to pick it up! We’ll just class the cracks as wear and tear…

Assembly

The stars of today’s assembly were Primary 5 who took us back to the days of Mary Queen of Scots and told us all about her life. We learned about her husbands, her travelling and her hopes that her cousin Elizabeth would help her.

The cast coped really well with the glitches in technology, and with the weather trying to take part!

Well done Primary 5.

Choir tour – day 2

We were at St John’s hospital today, singing Christmas carols in aid of the charity ‘Friends of St John’s hospital’. Those of us who had sung at St John’s before noticed the shiny new decor in the reception area – there’s even a handy new place to plug in our CD player!

We were able to run through our repertoire 3 times and had gathered quite a few fans by the time we finished singing. Thank you very much to everyone who came along to listen, our fan club were much appreciated. We heard lots of lovely comments and compliments, so we think everyone liked our singing and we were pleased with our performance. Thank you to everyone who donated money into the charity buckets- we’ll hope to hear the grand total raised in the New Year.

P6 Christmas Enterprise

P6 have had a lot of fun creating their own hand-sewn Christmas decorations to sell at tomorrow’s Christmas Fayre. Not only have they learnt how to sew but they have also been developing their business skills. P6 have taken on roles like Project Manager, Accountant and Marketing Manager to learn how to run their own business.

We have put in a lot of effort so please come along to the Christmas Fayre tomorrow to have a look at what we have on offer!

Choir tour 2015

Thank you to Pumpherston Community Council for inviting our school choir to sing at their annual Christmas meal. We had a lovely time at the Golf Club and we hope your guests enjoyed our singing.

The choir did very well, Mrs Hull, Mrs Campbell and Mrs Andison are very proud of them.

Next stop – St John’s hospital tomorrow!

POLICE SCOTLAND FESTIVE SAFETY MESSAGE

Police Scotland have released their annual Festive Safety message. This year’s message is to stay safe whilst Online, Shopping, Partying and at Home. They have provided some important information to help you stay safe this Festive Period. Click on the following headings to find out more information.

Online

More and more people use online shopping to purchase their Christmas presents as well as taking advantage of sales and events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s important to take a couple of precautionary steps when purchasing goods online to keep safe and avoid being targeted by criminals.

It is also important that people understand the dangers of social media and that what you post online, stays online.

Shopping

The festive period is traditionally the busiest time of the year for shopping and unfortunately, there are those who exploit the festive period for the wrong reasons but it only takes a few simple preventative measures to discourage criminals and stay safe.

Partying

Make sure to stay with friends, stick to your plans, have travel arranged and be careful of what you drink. Don’t leave drinks unattended and stay away from drugs, new psychoactive substances or other controlled substances.

Home

A few simple steps such as leaving a light on when you’re out, keeping presents and valuables out of sight, opening and closing curtains at the appropriate time of day and not advertising on social media when you are out helps to keep criminals away.

VSE Report

In September the school was subject to a council Validated Self Evaluation (VSE). The VSE took a broad look at all aspects of school life including leadership, improving performance, planning for teaching, learning and assessment, meeting learners needs and working with partners and the community. The finding of the process are laid out in a report which has been emailed home and is available to download from the OUR SCHOOL – USEFUL DOCUMENTS – SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT DOCUMENTS tab. En Garde with P3!

P3 are keeping fit in lots of different ways! We have been getting futsal, we are trying to do daily exercise by running outside and we now we have been lucky enough to have a fencing taster session. The children had lots of fun trying this sport and have been given leaflets if they would like to do this as an after school activity.
