Primary 1

Along with all their sporting activities for health week, the boys and girls have been working really hard to prepare for their assembly. They really enjoyed sharing their learning about life cycles with the rest of the school and their grown-ups on Thursday.

Primary 1 have also been busy at home, creating models and pictures of different life cycles to present and explain to their classmates. Take a look at some examples below.

P2/3 Health week

We have had a fantastic Health week with lots of different activities.

Kyle – We have enjoyed having healthier snacks this week.

Ethan -I enjoyed learning Judo and Karate. I really liked the games in Judo and getting to punch the dummy in Karate.

Ellie C – I really liked Sports Day because we get to try different things.

Bailey – I liked learning the Golf skills when you got to aim for the targets.

Calum – We learned about how many teaspoons of sugar were in different fizzy drinks. We were surprised by how much was in each drink.

We have had a fun week with lots of activities and learning about different ways to keep healthy. Have a lovely long weekend off.

P6 Judo, Yoga and Gardening

Today has been a busy day for P6. We started the morning off with curling and a win for the ‘Bobbleheads’ (Jack R, Shannon, Aaron and Charis). After break we had a Judo taster session, which was great fun, followed by some Zumba and Star Wars Yoga! Finally, we finished the afternoon outside doing some more gardening with Sarah-Jane. We were able to check on the progress of our Pond in a Pot and plant lot of new vegetables and flowers for the school garden (potatoes, nasturtiums, magnolias, cabbages and sunflowers to name a few).

SPORTS DAY PREDICTION

Weather for today (Thursday) is looking to be damp and wet which will affect the condition of the grass.  However Friday morning weather is looking to be fairly dry and mild with a slight chance of shower.  I will assess the condition of the grass on the field after school today and make a decision about going ahead or postponing tomorrow’s sports day.  I will inform you all by groupcall email.

P6 Futsal

P6 have been learning how to play Futsal (a modified version of football) this term. Today, they got to put the skills they have been learning into practice by having a Futsal tournament. It was great fun as everyone took part with enthusiasm and was supportive of their teammates and opponents alike.

Well done P6 for being such good sports!

P6 Karate taster session

P6 really ‘kicked’ off health week in style today with a karate taster session!

Here are some of our thoughts and opinions on the session, followed by some actions shots.

“I thought about someone I didn’t like when I was kicking Bob (the dummy)”

“I imagined I was fighting back when I was kicking Bob”

“I think karate is a great way to get frustration out and to have fun”

“I felt like I was actually flying when I did the fly kick”

“I felt like I was in a movie when I was doing the fly kick”

P3 Weekly Blog

As part of our weather topic we have been looking at weather themed pictures.  Then we were talking and sharing  how the picture made us feel.  We were developing our painting skills by painting in the style of a famous artist. The artist we looked at last week was Claude Monet. The picture we looked at was called Sunrise. Here are some of our paintings for you to enjoy.

Primary 2/3 Learning

This has been a great week and we’ve been outside a lot as the weather has been fantastic.

Ava F – We have started a new class novel, James and the Giant Peach and we are enjoying it so far.

Summer – In Art we were learning how to mix tones of the same colour. we learned how to make a primary colour lighter and darker.  I brought in a tulip because it showed dark and light tones on the petals.

Aaron – We are using our class sweet shop and enjoying the role play and maths in this area.  I like working out how much to pay for the sweets.

Calum – We have been writing a story about a pirate cove and in my story was about a bad pirate and three good pirates.  My main character was Josh the pirate and his ship was blown up.

Abbie – We have been using coins to make different amounts in Maths. This will help us when we are older for going shopping, paying bills, for jobs in shops and using money and for checking we have got the right amount from the bank.

Next Tuesday is our Learning walk and we will need to make sure we all have suitable jackets and shoes depending on the weather.  Next week is also our Health week so we are all, including Mrs Andison, going to try and bring healthy snacks for the week.

Have a great weekend

P6 Pond in a Pot

P6 have been out enjoying the sunshine with Sarah-Jane again this afternoon working on creating our ‘Pond in a Pot’.

First, we checked the pots that we had previously left out to collect rain water. Unfortunately, all the water we had collected had disappeared! We knew, from learning about the water cycle, that this was because it had evaporated thanks to all the lovely warm, sunny weather we have had recently. Luckily, Sarah-Jane had come prepared with some rain water so we were still able to make our pond.

We filled the pot with rocks and sticks to give animals areas to hide and also to allow them to move in and out of the pond more easily. After that we added a variety of plants to the pond. Some were oxygenating plants that float in the water and others were planted in soil. We had fun examining them and noticing the differences between water plants and non-water plants.

Once we added the water, our pond was finished. Now, we just need to wait patiently too see how the plants grow and which creatures come to visit!

Our pond is located on the P6 decking, please be careful around it. You are very welcome to have a look but please don’t touch it.
