PSFA – IF NOT YOU? THEN WHO?

parent-partners-puscps-logo

The PSFA (Parent’s Staff and Friends Association) is a small group of parents who meet when required to plan and share out tasks to organise fun events which your children enjoy.  This included the Christmas Fayre, the Discos at Halloween and Summer and the P7 Prom among others.

The money raised supports your children in a variety of ways including funding licenses for educational software and subsidising all school trips.

Over the last few years membership has dwindled to a very small 3 or 4 who have continued to work hard to support your children.  Currently the PSFA cannot continue to organise the same events, nor plan any new ones, without your help.  Please come along to our PSFA AGM on Wednesday 5 October at 4:15 in the dining hall and see how, with even a small amount of time, you can support the experiences of all of our children.

Without more members the PSFA will not be able to continue as it has previously.  IF NOT YOU? THEN WHO?

P3 braved the windy and wet weather today to visit Almondell & Calderwood Country Park.  They showed excellent problem solving, teamwork, learning of new skills and confidence.

Children  worked in groups to build their own shelter then the shelters were tested to see whether they met the agreed criteria.

They remembered that one of their rights is to have a safe shelter.

The shelters were so good that we considered camping for the night but we had forgotten our sleeping bags.

Well done P3!

Friday 7 October 11am – Families Learning Together – Session 1

Next Friday is our first Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning session.  This is for pupils in P2 to P7.  Anyone from home is welcome to come along and share the pupil’s learning.  Please ensure the reply slip is completed and returned so we know who is coming – for security.  The invite below is downloadable from the link – has been emailed – and is in each child’s bag.

If necessary – a simple note to the class teacher on whom to expect will be sufficient.  We look forward to seeing you then and are all very excited at building on our programme of developing home engagement with learning.

P6 have been learning to make iMovies

Mr Eagleson and P6 have been making some of the movies mentioned in this month’s newsletter.

We all learned to use the app iMovie together and shared ideas and tips to make them. The stories are silly because the learning was about the skills we used to make them, not the content.

We co-operated, problem solved and used a variety of skills for learning, life and work. Check out our work below.

The movie below was made by Lewis, Miai, Mathew, Freya and Jed.

P 2 / 3 Language Focus

Olivia P was helping us to  learn some Polish words to describe our feelings.  We drew pictures showing our feelings and some of the pictures had the feelings in English and some of the pictures had the feelings in Polish. We played a feelings matching game.  We showed P3 how to play our game.  P3 showed us how to play their game.  The P3 matching game showed pictures of animals and their names were in Spanish.007 008 009 011

PUSCPS Maths Champion

Susan Comrie and her husband Robert first came to our school through their charity work for Magale, a contact which was set up by Mrs Stachan. Mrs Comrie was overwhelmed by the generosity of the children and the community with the response to the Magale appeal she asked if she could come and volunteer. We were only too delighted to take her up on this kind offer. Mrs Comrie is a retired maths teacher and once a week we are lucky enough to have her helping with groups of children throughout the school.  She is impressed with the enthusiasm the children have towards maths and she thoroughly enjoys her time here.

Primary 5

This week, Primary 5 have been exploring creation stories! We know that different people believe different things about how the world was created, so we discussed what we thought and looked at what some religions believed.

We read the Christian creation story and  made it into a comic strip. Here are some examples of our work below.

We also learned that many religions believe that a God created the universe, but that Buddhists don’t believe that. They believe that the universe has always existed.  We watched a clip explaining how Hindus believe that universe was created and found that to be a very different story! We found that Hindus believe God has three jobs (Creator, Carer and Destroyer) and that they think the Earth came from the petals of a lotus flower, which came from their God’s bellybutton! It is really interesting to see what different people believe and Miss McLaughlin was very impressed at how respectful we were about each other’s opinions.

Until next time…
