Government Information on achievement in the Broad General Education

For the first time last session (2015/2016)  the Scottish Government collected information from all primary schools in Scotland on progress within the Broad General Education of Curriculum for Excellence.
Schools were asked to show where pupils had achieved the expected level.  These levels are:
  • early level by the end of P1
  • first level by the end of P4
  • second level by the end of P7

This data is now available online for every school in Scotland.  It can be accessed by clicking here: Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Levels, 2015/16

Our results are shown in the image below.  For us these are not just numbers on a grid, for behind each number is an individual boy or girl with their own strengths and weaknesses, successes and challenges whom we work with every day to support and develop.   These results reflect what we already know about our school and help us identify priorities for improvement going forward.

NOTE TO USERS FROM THE GOVERNMENT WEBSITE:
The “Achievement of CfE Levels” information included in this dashboard is the first set of achievement data for the Broad General Education to be collected and published.  As with many new collections of data, this data requires further development, before its accuracy and quality can be guaranteed.
Therefore, caution must be applied in interpreting the data on this dashboard.  Comparisons between schools within and across authorities should not be made without knowledge of the underlying approach to assessment and the context of the authority or school.  The data on this dashboard does not provide detail on these factors.

Primary 1

burns-4

This week we celebrated Burns day in Primary 1. We learned about Robert Burns and why he is a famous Scot. We drew our national flower, the thistle using oil pastels and we had a Scots food tasting. We tasted haggis,neeps and tatties and then we had oatcakes with cheese and some tasty shortbread!

Dress Down Friday

Remember that this Friday (27 January) is dress down day and pupils may wear their own clothes – not make-up, jewellery or football colours.

This month’s donation is in aid of NAIT babies which was suggested by a family in our community who have been affected by this.

You can find out more about NAIT babies by clicking here.

P 2 / 3 weekly blog

Last week we looked at other pieces of art work from Jolomo (John Lowrie Morrison). Here are more paintings in the style of Jolomo.  We hope you like them. This week we used primary colours ( blue /white / black). We mixed primary colours to make secondary colours ( we mixed white and red to get pink).

Primary 5

This week, Primary 5 were trying to improve their problem-solving skills!

We were focusing on multi-step problems, where we had to link two operations together (e.g. multiplication and addition, or addition and subtraction). We were given problems in context and had to use key words to work out the operations we needed to use. We also had to make our working very clear so Miss McLaughlin could see the steps we took. Have a look at some of our work below.

Until next time…

Primary 3

We have had a very busy week.   James from Broxburn United has been visiting us on a Wednesday for P.E.  He spoke to us about the importance of encouragement and that water is our most precious resource!  We were given a gift of a water bottle to keep us hydrated!

In Maths, we started the week by creating our own frequency tables to show peoples’ favourite things.  Next week we will be creating bar graphs with our data.   In number, everyone has been learning about the value of digits dependending if they are in the ones, tens, hundreds or thousands place.  Some of us even managed to talk about tens of thousands.

We are looking forward to next week.

P6 Class Poem – ‘My luve, Ross’

As part of our Scots focus, P6 have been analysing ‘A Red, Red Rose’ by Robert Burns. We discussed his use of rhythm, rhyme and repetition and used this to inspire our own class poem in the same style. We used the Scots spelling of ‘luve’ rather than ‘love’, as Robert Burns did in his poem. You can read our poem below; we hope you like it!

My luve, Ross

Oh my luve’s like a teddy bear,

That’s soft and fluffy too;

Oh my luve’s like a purple pug,

That’s filled with joy like you.

Oh my luve’s like a big Big Mac,

That’s so juicy inside;

Oh my luve’s like flowers in grass,

That touches my heart with pride!

Oh my luve’s like a cheese pizza,

That’s crunchy like some toast;

Oh my luve’s like a golden ring,

That’s a perfect fit for most.

Oh my luve’s like a bunch of grapes,

That’s growing on a tree.

Oh my luve’s like a juicy lime,

That’s growing just like me.

Oh my luve is like a diamond,

He shines so bright at night;

Oh my luve’s like a chocolate cake,

We will not ever fight!

Oh my luve’s like a cosy fire,

I’d love to give him hugs;

Oh my luve’s like the gentle breeze,

He is as cute as pugs!

Oh my luve’s like chicken nuggets,

Covered in curry sauce;

Oh my luve’s like a frying pan,

And my love’s name is Ross!
