CLUB WILD – Our fantastic Outdoor club

Giving wildlife homes in our school grounds!
This school year has been great for getting wildlife into our school grounds.

We recorded an increase in the numbers of birds and different species of birds as we undertook the Big Schools Bird watch in February. This is down to setting up a bird feeding area and making sure that we provide food throughout the year.

We  were so excited to see a family of blue tits use a bird box that we had put up in the spring. Check out the video of mummy and daddy birds feeding their young.

We were also very surprised and excited to uncover a nest of shrews who had made their home in the wooden building at the back of the playground. It shows us that all the different things that we are doing to make the playground more interesting will bring wildlife that we can watch and understand.

We can still do more!

Club Wild have been thinking of all the habitats that we have within the school grounds and writing our own Biodiversity Action Plan to increase the variety of animal and plant species. We started this by making habitat heaps, a log pile and a rock pile. With these we hope to attract newts, toads and frogs, spiders and other insects. We will probably see birds looking in our heaps for food too.

What an exciting year for all of us in Club Wild! We look forward to coming back after the summer holidays and giving more species homes in our school.

Highland Games

Everyone in P3 enjoyed a sunny Scottish morning at the cluster Highland Games today. From welly wanging to highland coo catching, lots of fun was had. The children had the opportunity to meet other P3 pupils from the cluster and showed excellent participation and behaviour.

Well done P3!

Scientists in training!

Last week we were learning about water. When water is a solid it is ice. We held the ice in our hands until it melted. When ice thaws it makes water which is a liquid. When we heat water up in a kettle it becomes steam.

We then played the solid – liquid – steam game.

PSFA Summer Discos

This Wednesday (21st June) is the annual SUMMER DISCO!

Tickets cost £2 on the door and include a goody bag.  This is a great, fun event organised by the PSFA for the benefit of the pupils and to raise some money for the school.  We look forward to seeing you there!

  • P4 to P7 pupils – 7:15pm – 8:15pm

P1 life cycles

In science, P1 have been learning about life cycles and have completed fantastic projects at home to show their learning.

Mr Eagleson spent a fascinating morning seeing the P1 class confidently and clearly present their detailed and exciting work from home.

Well done P1, your confidence in speaking and your support of each other is great to see.

Parental Engagement Consultation Winner

Last term we sent out a questionnaire on Parental Engagement.  We sought your views on the three new methods of parental engagement in learning we trialled this session:

  • Online Learning Journals in N-P1
  • Thinking Back, Looking Forward profiles in P2-P7
  • Families Learning Together sessions

In order to encourgage greater levels of feedback we offered entry to a draw to win a Morrison voucher for £20.  In the video below Hayden and Darci in P4 help Mr Eagleson draw the winner.

I wish my teacher knew…

This morning we enjoyed our last Pumphie Pals of the session.  In our mixed groups of children from P1-P7 we thought about what we wanted our new teacher to know, what we were excited about and what we were worried about.  We also shared pictures of us at our happiest!

The new class teachers will use this information on the first morning back on August 22nd to get to know us better.   See our video below and a photo of our completed forms.
