In P5 we have been further developing our mental maths skills by learning a range of strategies for addition. We are becoming very confident using the appropriate maths language when we are talking through our strategies. Once all of the strategies have been learned we will then look for the most effective strategy for a given calculation.
This is the place value strategy where the numbers have been split (partitioning) into tens and ones to be added.
This is the place value strategy but this time it is split into hundreds, tens and then ones before we add them together.
Landmark numbers are what we call the nearest ten. We split the number to be added so we can make a landmark number first then add on what remains. This helps us develop our number bonds to 10.
This is our mental maths board where all strategies are shared so we can use them for support while we practise a new strategy.
