Welcome to Term 3

Dear parent/ carer,

Welcome pack to Term 3.

We sent an email out on Friday with information about the types of home learning we will be providing for your child: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/information-about-home-learning-starting-11th-jan/

We have blogged information about how P4-7 can access Teams at home: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/advice-on-accessing-glow-for-p4-7/

Also how P4-7 can access the video calls with their teacher: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/p4-7-instructions-for-pupil-video-lessons/

Staff will blog a timetable for your child on a Monday. Frequently checking the blog is a good way of keeping in touch with the latest news, etc. You can get notifications of blog posts through following us on Twitter: @PUSCPS and on Facebook.

For families who require some resources for home learning; learning packs with paper, pencils, glue, etc. will be available to collect from outside the office doors on Tuesdays 9:00-10:00am and Thursdays 1:30-2:30pm. Please remember to wear a mask, maintain physical distancing and sanitise hands when collecting the packs.

We know home learning can be a difficult time for families and we recognise everyone is in very different situations. Our staff have worked hard last week (and will continue to) to plan progression in learning for your child. However, please only do what you can with your child/ children at a time that suits you, which best meets the need of your child and family circumstances.

If your child requires any support with their learning they can ask their teacher on Teams or Seesaw. If you require any support, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our school office is open 8:30 – 3:15pm and 8:30-12:30pm on a Friday or you can email us on wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk

Kind regards,

Miss Burton

Information About Home Learning Starting 11th Jan

Dear Parent/Carer,

As directed by the Scottish Government remote learning will begin from Monday 11th January, the following arrangements are in place to ensure continuity of learning for your child during this time.

P1-P3 will receive learning experiences shared through Seesaw, which all children have access to with their log in via the Seesaw App.

P4-P7 will use Microsoft 0365 Teams, which can be accessed through their Glow account.  Information for parents on how their child uses Teams is available on the following link: bit.ly/wlglowguide. There is also some advice here on how children can access Glow on different devices: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/advice-on-accessing-glow-for-p4-7/

It is expected that your child accesses Seesaw/Teams daily to engage with the planned teaching and learning experiences. Each platform allows your child to participate in live and/or recorded lessons, engage in learner conversation, share their learning, receive feedback and support where required.

To support parents/carers to manage home learning and ensure a consistent approach across the school here are specific details of what to expect:

Learning in P1-3 will consist of:

Monday – Thursday:

  • One literacy lesson per day
  • One numeracy lesson, including number talks per day
  • One health and wellbeing or interdisciplinary learning lesson per day
  • Over the course of the week there will be 3 recorded lessons.
  • Sumdog challenge
  • Children who have access to IDL should continue to use it

Friday:

  • One literacy lesson
  • One numeracy lesson, including number talks
  • One together time activity

Learning in P4-7 will consist of:

Monday – Thursday:

  • One literacy lesson per day
  • One numeracy lesson, including number talks per day
  • One health and wellbeing or interdisciplinary learning lesson per day
  • Each day one of these lessons will be introduced via a live Teams call (if the class teacher is in school teaching that day there will not be a live call)
  • Sumdog challenge
  • Children who have access to IDL should continue to use it

Friday:

  • One literacy lesson
  • One numeracy lesson
  • One together time activity

  • A timetable for the week will be posted on the school blog on a Monday, to support families to plan their week. This will include the times of the video calls: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/
  • The class teacher will provide advice to the children on how to post their learning in the correct place.

Remote learning can be very difficult for families so please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or require further information:

wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk or 01506 280995.

Our school team will continue to provide all available support to your child and family where we can during this challenging period.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Burton

End of Term Message from Miss Burton

Good morning everyone,

Wow! Can you actually believe it is the end of term?!

It’s hard to believe that 14 weeks ago our school doors closed, but our school community definitely didn’t.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you as parents and carers for your support as we navigated through these unprecedented times. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for supporting us along the way. In some ways, although we are apart, I feel like we have grown closer. You have done a brilliant job of supporting your child with home learning, please give yourself credit for that.

Thank you to our staff who have quickly adapted to a new way of learning and teaching, and especially for humouring me with my love of making a making a wee video! They have consistently taught our children, showing they care whilst experiencing the personal challenges that lock down brings to us all. Thank you to everyone who also works behinds the scenes- a lot of work goes into running the school smoothly.

Happy retirement to our dear Mrs Ness, who has dedicated 25 years to our school. That is a huge achievement and dedication to our community! She will be greatly missed by us all.

Thank you to our children- we miss them dearly! They are the true stars of PUSCPS. We have loved seeing, and hearing them in Teams, reading emails and seeing their uploads to online learning journals. Good luck to our Primary 7s- they will be greatly missed. It was great to celebrate with them last week, and we know they will go on to make us all proud. Please now take 10 minutes to sit with your child and watch this wee video we made especially for them:

I will be in touch in August once we have a clearer picture of what the school day will look like. August will bring a new normal for us, but for now, rest and try not to worry.  None of us like uncertainty, but the one thing that is certain is that we will always be here to support you. We are ready to welcome you and your child back, and we are very excited about that!

Please give your child a big PUSCPS hug from me- I miss them lots.

Happy holidays,

Miss Burton

Nursery Class of 2020!

It was a double celebration for our new Primary 1s last week.

They said goodbye to their nursery staff and received their nursery scroll and gift.

Then the had the opportunity to visit their Primary 1 classroom and meet their new teachers! They also received a gift from them to say we would be thinking of them over the summer.

A big welcome to our New P1s from everyone at PUSCPS!
