Sumdog Help

To be able to take part in the Snow Day competition, if children have not used Sumdog recently they might need to complete the assessment at the top of the login screen first. Once it’s done that then it should be okay to enter the contest.

P3 Snow Day

Morning P3 children, parents & carers,

Hope you are enjoying your snow day and get a chance to go out and have some fun in the snow.  If you get bored of the snow, remember there are lots of snow day activities for you to complete on the blog and any work you do can be brought  in and shared with the class when we return. I have re-posted the P3 Winter Ready post below.  Here are some other activities you could try:

  • draw or paint a snowy picture, read a book, make up a dance to a favourite song, watch a film and review it.
  • Practise your times tables. You have been enjoying playing the times table games on Topmarks https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables  They have lots of good Literacy games too.  http://www.ictgames.com/ is another good site to try for literacy and maths games.
  • Miss McLennan has created a school Sumdog Competition. Why don’t you log in to Sumdog and give it a go!
  • As we are missing our Pumphie book day you could design a new cover for a favourite book – remember to include the title, author and illustrator(you).  You could also write your own blurb for the back of the cover.

You can post photos of you having fun in the snow or any other activity you do today. I’d love to see them. Have fun!

P6 Snow Day

Good morning boys and girls!

I hope you have had some fun in the snow!

Have you been watching any good films on the TV and keeping warm?

Who was your favourite character? What was it about them that you liked? Draw a detailed picture about your favourite character and write some sentences about why you liked them.

Sumdog: remember there is still your weekly challenge to be completed on Sumdog so go on and have a go!

Comparing Scotland with Bangladesh.

I am busy looking over your scripts and I am putting that together for you to have a look at tomorrow.

Why don’t you do some research on another one of the areas? The things we have been comparing are: populations, education, religion, clothes, food and animals.

Draw a detailed picture of Bangladeshi traditional costume or animals that are native to Bangladesh. because we are still needing more pictures for our assembly powerpoint.

Enjoy the snow

Mrs Campbell

Primary 7 Winter Ready Activities

Good morning everyone!

As part of our continued learning, here is a list of some other activities you could complete at home:

  • Research some information on your group’s area of China.
  • Think about how you will design the pop-up page to demonstrate your understanding of the topic you researched.
  • Take part in the Sum Dog competition that has been put on today.
  • Use your line drawing skills to draw an image from a book or magazine, or go online and find a step-by-step drawing guide like the one we used for the Koi Carp.
  • Write a book review that you could include in your First Minister’s Reading Challenge record when you return to school.
  • Challenge someone to build a snow animal!

Or try out some of the activities on the attached sheet: P7-Winter-Ready

You could also work on information for your Didbook profile by creating a paragraph for each of the following headings:

What pets do you have? What are their qualities?

MY BOOKS

What books do you like to read and who is the author?

What are the books about and why do you like to read them?

MY FILMS

What films do you like and what genre are they, for example, comedy, action or drama?

Are there any particular actors you prefer to watch and why?

MY HEROES

Who is/are your hero/heroes?

What do they do for a living and what qualities do they have that you admire?

MY INTERESTS

What are you interested in and why?

MY MUSIC

What type of music to you like to listen to and what do you like about it?

MY PLANS

What do you think you might want to be in the future? What skills and qualities do you have that would be useful for this job/career?

Have fun and stay safe in the snow!

Primary 1

Hello Primary 1,

We hope everyone is having some fun in the snow or a nice warm day at home!

There are Winter Ready ideas on the blog already but here are some extra activities to try out today:

– dress up as your favourite book character like you were meant to do today.

– login to Sumdog and join our school ‘Snow Day’ competition. Check out where you are on the leaderboard!

– Can you make odd and even amounts of snowballs?

– check whether people in your family have an odd or even number of letters in their name.

– Build a super hero snowman like your Supertatos from yesterday.

– Make a mini book about what you get up to on your day off. You can include pictures and sentences. Bring it back into school to share with the class.

– Hide some objects in the snow and make a map for someone to find them. You could even give them directions to find things in the house.

– Read a book to your favourite teddy or toy.

– Take a photo of you reading in an unusual place and post to Twitter or the blog.

– Explore your Book Bags.

– Build some words or play a game with your sight words.

See you all soon,

Mrs Strachan & Miss McLennan 😁

Primary 4 Snow Day!

Good morning everyone.

I hope you are all enjoying the wonderful snow! Remember there are lots of snow day activities for you to complete on the blog and any work you do can be brought  in and shared with the class when we return.

Here are some creative activities you can try:

Snowy picture or painting

Snowy personal story (remember to include thoughts and feelings)

A Tom Gates inspired story with pictures and words

Practise your times tables using snow/snowballs

Read a book

Draw a map of your local area and label it

Watch Newsround and draw or write about what you found out

But mainly, have fun with your family and friends in the snow! I would love to see any photos of you in the snow!  I will see you when we return to school.

Miss Mulhern

Primary 2

Good morning little ones and parents too!

I have re-attached our Winter Ready activities to save you scrolling back to previous posts. If you are looking for things to do today, try some of them! Bring anything you have done with you to school :).

I’m really disappointed that I couldn’t get to see your fantastic World Book Week costumes, so if you feel like taking pictures or posting photos on our school pages, I would love to see them!

  • Try reading something new today – it could be a new story, information book, leaflet or newspaper!
  • We have been reading ‘Matilda’ in class and learning about different types of characters. Miss Honey is a ‘nice’ character and Miss Trunchbull is very definitely a ‘nasty’ character. Try creating your own ‘nice’ and ‘nasty’ characters at home – think about them, draw pictures or make puppets!
  • You now have your Sumdog passwords in the front cover of your homework diary. We have been learning to log in on our own, so if you can, try again! Miss McLennan has set up a school contest.  Look on the left hand side of the page (when logged in) for a button that says ‘Snow Day’. Click it and click ‘Snow Day competition’. You can only take part in the competition once you have completed the assessment at the top of the log in screen! Play that to unlock your first pet and new games :)!

P2 Winter Ready

You can use the blog ‘comment’ section or the school Facebook page to get in touch!

Enjoy your day 🙂 hope to see you soon!
