P6 Artwork

As part of our Scots focus, P6 have been studying the work of the Scottish Colourists. First, we looked at examples of their work and talked about their styles of painting and what the artwork made us think and feel. The children then created their own portraits inspired by the work of John Duncan Fergusson. Finally, they set up their own still life compositions using classroom objects and used shading to draw the still life, inspired by the work of Samuel Peploe.

P6 Class Poem – ‘My luve, Ross’

As part of our Scots focus, P6 have been analysing ‘A Red, Red Rose’ by Robert Burns. We discussed his use of rhythm, rhyme and repetition and used this to inspire our own class poem in the same style. We used the Scots spelling of ‘luve’ rather than ‘love’, as Robert Burns did in his poem. You can read our poem below; we hope you like it!

My luve, Ross

Oh my luve’s like a teddy bear,

That’s soft and fluffy too;

Oh my luve’s like a purple pug,

That’s filled with joy like you.

Oh my luve’s like a big Big Mac,

That’s so juicy inside;

Oh my luve’s like flowers in grass,

That touches my heart with pride!

Oh my luve’s like a cheese pizza,

That’s crunchy like some toast;

Oh my luve’s like a golden ring,

That’s a perfect fit for most.

Oh my luve’s like a bunch of grapes,

That’s growing on a tree.

Oh my luve’s like a juicy lime,

That’s growing just like me.

Oh my luve is like a diamond,

He shines so bright at night;

Oh my luve’s like a chocolate cake,

We will not ever fight!

Oh my luve’s like a cosy fire,

I’d love to give him hugs;

Oh my luve’s like the gentle breeze,

He is as cute as pugs!

Oh my luve’s like chicken nuggets,

Covered in curry sauce;

Oh my luve’s like a frying pan,

And my love’s name is Ross!

P6 Weekly Blog

This week we learned about time in maths, we were learning 12 and 24 hour time. We found out that 24 hour time has a colon and 12 hour doesn’t and 24 hour time is mostly used on your phone or electrical device.

With Mrs Andison we have been learning about smoking. In drama we made a smoking advert to help people stop smoking and to tell them about the consequences.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all creatures from Club Wild. We hope it is a good year for all and especially for the birds, bees and butterflies. Look what a difference we made last year with the wild flower meadow at the front of school. It went from a patch of bare ground to a beautiful haven for bees and butterflies. Everyone enjoyed the amazing variety and colours of the plants. We used it as our outdoor classroom where we made butterfly feeders, learned how to take close up photographs and carry out bee and butterfly surveys.

We are looking forward to the new year and for more adventures outside in nature. There is so much more we can do to help our wild plants and animals.
Below you will see some of our beautiful flowers from our garden.

Our learning this week! P6

This week in maths we were using 2D nets to make 3D shapes. We made a cube, a cone, a square based pyramid, a cuboid, a triangular prism and a cylinder.

This week we were doing writing too. We were writing about a Christmas day and were setting a scene using the 5 senses: sight, feel, taste, smell and sound.
