Families Learning Together 3

We had a fantastic turn out for our third Families Learning Together session last week. Families joined their children so they could share their learning in their jotters so far this term. They also had the opportunities to give two stars and a wish about their learning. Thank you to everyone who made it along.

Thank you to our P7 Young Leaders who helped out at this event.

P6 STEM

Primary 6 have been enjoying lots of STEM related learning this term. We started the term with our Scottish Inventors topic and are looking forward to sharing our learning from this in our class assembly this Friday morning. We have now started a new topic on the Solar System and had fun including visitors from home in our learning last week. We are learning about the planets in our Solar System and have been researching planets of our choice. Here are some interesting facts we have already discovered:

  • Darci found out that Saturn has 62 moons and Gillon discovered that Pluto has 5 moons (compared to Earth’s one). Eilidh and Amber’s research showed that Mars’s 2 moons are called Phobos and Deimos.
  • Samuel’s research showed that the atmosphere of Mars is made up of mostly carbon dioxide, while Jamie’s showed that Jupiter’s atmosphere consists mainly of hydrogen and helium.
  • Mia discovered that the surface of Mars is covered in a fine dust similar to talcum powder.
  • Amen found out that Saturn has a radius of 58, 232 km and it is 1.434 billion km from the Sun.
  • Summer discovered that Mercury has a surface area of 74.8 million square kilometres.
  • Samantha’s researched the dwarf planet of Eris and found that one year on Eris is the same as 557 years on Earth.

Sharing Our STEM Learning

On Wednesday 13th March we invited our families to come and share our STEM Learning with us. They joined in lots of different activities with their children, you can see some the learning opportunities below.

Thank you to everyone who came along to join us.

Primary 7 shared some of their learning about China and how they have been comparing a school day in China to their own.

Primary 7 China topic

Feedback from our survey included:

What did you find out about your child’s learning that you did not already know?

  • That they were doing human biology.
  • My child knows more than he shows at home.
  • I saw Didbook for the first time, it’s great.
  • My child  is happy to accept help when offered

What other information would you like us to provide during Visit My Class sessions?

  • Some feedback from teachers. I feel the gap is maybe a touch long between feedback sessions.
  • If there is anything my child needs to improve on.

In what other ways can we support you to support your child at home?

Glasgow Rocks Basketball Trip!

On Sunday 17th March, our Basketball Team and some other pupils from P6 and 7 joined Mrs Hamilton, Mrs Birrell and Miss Burton on a trip to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow to see Glasgow Rocks play against the Worcester Wolves.

There was great atmosphere at the game and we really enjoyed it. Our basketball team have picked up some tips for their next game too. A big thank you to the staff who came along on a Sunday so the trip could happen.
