Dress Down Day
A reminder that Friday 1st November is a dress down day. We would request if children decided to dress down that they make a donation. The house and vice captains have decided that the money raised will be used by classes to select resources for Together Time.
Please no football colours or crop tops.
Halloween Parties
Children should please return their permission slip and entrance fee prior to the party.
Home Learning Choice Boards
At a recent parent partner meeting we discussed our current approaches to homework and the impact homework has on achievement and attainment. Following this we have decided to trial issuing a home learning choice board each term. The choice board is attached and a copy is in your child’s homework book. Their reading homework will sit alongside this and will be in your child’s reading record/ homework diary. We home you find this useful and will ask for feedback in term 4.
Calder Movie Afternoon
Calder were the term 1 house points winners. Summer and Kyle surveyed the children in Calder to find out what they would like their treat to be and they selected a movie afternoon. They then did a survey to find out which movie and they picked Nanny McPhee. We also picked juice, popcorn and ice lollies for refreshments and dressed in our pjs. We had a fun, relaxing afternoon with our house buddies! Thank you to Kyle, Summer and the P7 Young Leaders for helping to organise and set up the party.

Term 1 Celebration Assembly

On Friday we had our end of term Celebration Assembly.
We acknowledged our Awesome Authors, those children who have made excellent progress or achievements within writing.
We also recognised our STEM Superstars, those children who have made excellent progress or achievements within Science, Technologies or Maths.
We recognised our P6 and 7 children who helped out at our recent parent consultations.
We found out that our school has received the Silver Sports Scotland Award. A huge congratulations to our Sports Stars and Mrs McConville.
Our House and Vice Captains set a Maths Weeks Scotland Poster Challenge, and the winners received a prize!
We took part in the National Maths Week Sumdog Competition. Some of children completed all 1000 questions! Primary 3 scored the highest for the school, and Tyler came 207th out of almost 75000 pupils.
Thank you to our Sumdog reps who reminded up about the competition!

Calder Movie Afternoon
Congratulations to Calder for winning the house points his term!
They have decided on a Movie Afternoon for their treat. On Thursday 10th October children in Calder can bring along pyjamas/ onesie to change into (they should wear their uniform to school) and a blanket/ pillow. Children should not bring their own snacks as these will be provided.
We look forward to celebrating!
Parent Partner Halloween Party
A letter will go out this week asking for a permission slip to be signed and money to be returned to the school before the event, this will mean registers can be prepared before the event.

What were we learning?
To create a set of measurements to help us make Jacobite hats.
How would we know if we were successful?
- We would be able to measure our head circumference in centimetres.
- We would be able to calculate the diameter and radius using the circumference to help us.
- We would be able to use the radius measurement to create a perfect circle.
What did we do?
- We worked in pairs to measure each other’s head circumferences.
- We used the measurement of Pi (3.14) to calculate the diameter of the circle.
- We then halved the diameter to calculate the radius of the circle.
- We used this measurement to create a circle using the compasses.
We have used our measurements to create a pattern for our fabric. Our pieces have now been cut out and the next step is to begin sewing them together. Check in with us to see how we are doing!
