Thinking Back Looking Forward Pupil Profiles – P2-P7

Today pupils in P2 – P7 will bring home their THINKING BACK LOOKING FORWARD profile for this term.    This is a profile of what your child sees as their progress in learning so far this session and also includes a summary of the pupils’ current strengths and next steps from the class teacher.  Pupils in nursery and P1 will have learning to share through the Online Learning Journals system.

This is a new approach to reporting to parents for us this term and – as discussed in September’s newsletter – it forms a part of our FAMILIES LEARNING TOGETHER – SHARING LEARNING programme which we are developing this session.

We hope you find these new mid-year profiles more useful that the old-format final report in June.  Please bring your copy along to your appointment on Wednesday or Thursday evening and you can discuss it with the teacher then.   All pupils took home an appointment slip for parent appointments on Friday – if you don’t have yours – please call the office.

Termly Learning Overviews – Term 1 2016/2017 (August-October)

Each term class teachers plan the areas of focus for this term’s learning.  These overviews are shared with home and with the pupils.  The overviews for this term below were sent home in September with each child.  You can check them here and download a copy of your child’s plan.  This can help frame a discussion with your child on what they are learning and where they are finding success or challenges.

Working together on research

This week the Primary 4’s have been working really hard to find out more about the Vikings.  They chose a group and aspect of Vikings to research and developed open Higher Order Thinking Skills questions.  Now they are completing research to find out more about the Vikings and share this with the rest of the class.  The children worked really well together using each others strengths to get the most from their time.

Friday 7 October 11am – Families Learning Together – Session 1

Next Friday is our first Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning session.  This is for pupils in P2 to P7.  Anyone from home is welcome to come along and share the pupil’s learning.  Please ensure the reply slip is completed and returned so we know who is coming – for security.  The invite below is downloadable from the link – has been emailed – and is in each child’s bag.

If necessary – a simple note to the class teacher on whom to expect will be sufficient.  We look forward to seeing you then and are all very excited at building on our programme of developing home engagement with learning.

P4 are developing Growth Mindset

(written on Friday 9th September)

This week Primary 4 have worked hard on some tricky tasks.  They found some things difficult

This week we found Spelling difficult because we got trickier words.  So we practised our words and they are easier.

This week we found writing numbers in Maths difficult so we used the information card to help us.

We found Maths difficult because we had to write numbers in words so we kept practising and it was easier by the time we got to the end of the sheet.

We found the Maths Chilli challenge tricky.  It is choice of mild, hot or spicy problems which we could choose which one to solve.  So we used the strategies the teacher gave us to help us.

We found the Maths worksheet where we had to write the words for numbers tricky so we kept trying and once we managed one we went on to the next one.

We found the listening activity tricky because we needed to listen carefully so we just kept trying.

What P4 have been learning and improving

(written on Friday 2nd September)

Amber and Jamie – In PE, we were practising passing skills so that we could play bench ball.

Finlay – In PE, we were practising the bounce pass and then moving to a space once we had passed.

Amen and Josh  – We learnt about Growth Mindset and we know that if can’t do it, what we really mean is we can’t do it YET!

Renee and Aildh – We have been making our class charter so we have a better place to learn.

Dylan and Kelly – We learned that there are microscopic cells in our brains called neurons which help you to learn

Bailey and Alice – We made Diamond 9s for the class charter, thinking about what was most important and what was least important.

Summer and Murron – We were learning our birthdays in French and we made cakes with the right number of candles for that month.

Ryan F and Eilidh – We have been watching Newsround to be up to date with what is happening around the world.

Zayah and Tristan – We have been learning about our rights.

Owen and Ryan S – We have been doing our Beautiful Oops where turn a mistake into something beautiful

Hayden, Kyle and Michal – We watched Newsround and learnt about a man who was running in the Gobi Desert and found a dog.

Darci and Jay – We have been writing a story about a beautiful summer day to show off how good our writing is.

Gillon and Sam – We have been learning Mojo and who was having school and he learnt that you have to keep trying.

Jessica and Samuel – We have been learning joins in our handwriting and we are going to use them in all our writing.

Hello from Primary 4

(written on Friday 26th August)

We have settled in really well this week and are working on following instructions.

We are enjoying watching Newsround because it is interesting and we get to see what is happening around the world.

We have been reminding ourselves about the Golden Rules and Children’s rights and we are going to use these to create a Class Charter which will help our classroom be a better learning environment.

We have been learning new skills at PE.  We practised throwing and catching.  It was good fun.

We have chosen our representatives for the different groups in the school.  Candidates had to present a short speech to say why they would be best for the job. Then we voted and the person with the most votes won.

Finally we have been using ClassDojo to earn points by working hard, behaving well and helping others.  We have little monsters which are our characters.  We like earning points this way.
