Sports Day Feedback

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you to those who were able to join us yesterday for our School Sports Day. We are glad that so many of you could join us across our morning and afternoon sessions. We are looking to announce the winner of Sports Day tomorrow at assembly (14/6/24).

I would greatly appreciate any feedback about Sports Day yesterday. This will allow me to plan and organise next year’s event with input from parents, children and carers.

The link below will take you to the feedback form or you should have received this through a group call today.

Talk Money Week Home Challenge

Talk Money Week is an opportunity for everyone to get involved with events and activities across the UK which help people have more open conversations about their money – from pocket money to pensions – and continue these conversations year-round.

The ‘Magic Mathematicians’ Pupil Voice Group would like to invite you to take part in our Talk Money Challenge.  We would like you to think about how we keep money safe.

We would like you to design and create one of the following:

  • money container
  • wallet
  • purse

You can use recycled junk or fabric.

Please bring in your finished design by Friday 10th November.

The Magic Mathematicians will choose their favourite designs from the following age categories:

  • P1-P2
  • P3-P4
  • P5-P7

P3 Outdoor Literacy

We have been out in the playground for Literacy today. We had to listen to the words and decide if they were an adjective, verb or noun. We then used our senses to describe different items in our playground. Please see our class Seesaw for more pictures.

Outdoor Numeracy

Today, Primary Three have been practicing using a number line to solve addition sums. We have been working in small groups to create a sum, draw it out and solve. We enjoyed consolidating our learning using the chalks outside.

Author Masterclass – Dr Seuss

On Thursday, World Book Day (and Dr Seuss’ birthday), Miss McLaughlin ran a ‘Cat in the Hat’-themed masterclass.

We listened to the story of ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and discussed rhythm/rhyme.

We created our own ‘Cat in the Hat’ artwork and gave the Cat new looks! Miss McLaughlin then gave us a design challenge where we had to plan and create a new hat for the Cat. We used lots of different crafting materials for our creations. #effectivecontributors

P3 Weekly Update

This week we focused on learning our common words through active learning. We were able to do these stations independently following the instructions at the beginning of the lesson. We enjoyed being able to explore Literacy through lots of different activities and alongside our learning buddies.

In Maths this week, we have continued learning about collecting and collating data using tally marks and bar graphs. We had fun in our ‘pancake flipping’ competition where we tally marked how many times each person could flip their pancake. This was then used to create a bar/block graph.

Your child has brought home their Wonderful Week of Work jotter for you to see from this week. There is a sheet stuck in where you can leave feedback on what you have read and your child also.

P3 Weekly Update

This week we have been focusing on our knowledge of how to write a procedure.

Today we were asked to reflect on our prior learning and use it to complete a group task. Miss Walkingshaw provided us with an example of a procedure – ‘How to safely exit the building in a fire’ which builds further onto their learning with Mrs Mooney.

We were asked to find the structure of the procedure first, identify title, goal and materials used before ordering the steps in the correct order. We showed fantastic knowledge of how this genre should be written.

P3 Weekly Update

This week we have been focusing on our nativity performance of ‘The Magical Christmas Journey’ where we have spent most of our week getting this ready for all parents and carers to attend next week. We are so excited for you all to come and see the performance next week!

Magical Christmas Journey : Various: Amazon.co.uk: Books

In between our nativity practices, we have been learning more about our topic ‘The Rotten Romans’. We have been learning about what a day in the life of a Roman school child would be like as well as Roman numerals.

Below is a link to the song we have been using to help us:

P3 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 3 we have been busy working hard in all areas of our learning. We are excited for you to see our ‘Wonderful Week of Work’ jotters and bring them home and show off our work form this week.

We have created our craft for the Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December 2022.

We developed our knowledge of what makes a good friend and discussed the qualities that we look for in a good friend. We are looking for these everyday in the classroom, in the playground and at home and to show these qualities to others.

James from Broxburn United FC joined us this week for our 4th week of Fun Fitness Friday. We were learning what it means to be ‘physically active’.
