West Lothian Council’s Walking Week

Every year West Lothian Council host a Walking Week in which all residents are encouraged to get out and walk.  There are a range of activities during that week for the community to get involved in and one of these is especially for schools.  In the past we have had welly walks and odd sock walks among others.  This year it was a ‘Onesie Walk’ which saw many of the children and staff coming to school in onesies and walking in the community.  Due to the time of year we altered our walk slightly to be a onesie and welly walk and the children were encouraged to wear onesies and/or wellies to join in the fun.  It was a great day and everyone had a good time and were given the opportunity to explore parts of the grounds around the school that they had perhaps not visited before.  I wonder what next year’s theme for the walk will be?

Litter pick – new date! 2nd October!

Due to prior commitments of the NETS team and their equipment, the new date for the Community Litter pick will be Wednesday 2nd October.  Please contact the school office if you would be able to join us on a walk around our community to pick up any litter and make Pumpherston and Uphall Station clean and tidy. Join Us!

Saving Scottish Animals

We had a very special visitor in school today. All of our classes got the chance to meet Lee, who is an animal rescue officer with the Scottish SPCA.  We learned lots about how we can help protect animals here in our community, how dangerous litter can be and what to do if we see an animal in trouble.  She taught us to stay safe, tell an adult and contact the SSPCA for help.  Here is a link to their website http://www.scottishspca.org/

Wanted: Willing Wombles! Community Litter Pick next week

Our big Autumn Litter pick, out in the villages of Pumpherston and Uphall Station, will take place next Thursday morning(Sept 19th).  We would like to have as many of our friends and families taking part as possible – if you have an hour or so to spare come and join in with the classes as they tidy up the local area. The first groups will leave the school at 9.15am.

We’ll be out and about on the streets and in the parks.  Members of WLC NETS team will be with us to give training, lend equipment and hand out the bright yellow vests we wear to show we’re all Keeping Scotland Beautiful. If you can help please contact the office and we’ll match you up with a group on the day.  Thank you!

A Golden Moment

As you all know Miss Jean Martin is retiring on Friday after teaching at Pumpherston & Uphall Station Primary School for the past 41 years.  As much I am sure she is looking forward to the next stage of her life I know that Miss Martin will miss being in the school and being with the children every day.  It takes someone very special to have  taught in the same community for 41 years and at a very emotional assembly in the school yesterday Miss Martin described the school and the communities it serves as ‘being like a special family’.  We will all miss her and wish her a very long and happy retirement.

Busy, busy, busy

As the end of term comes hurtling towards us it is sometimes hard to find the time to record the highlights of each week.  This past week has seen the P3 class participate in some Highland Games, our  annual Beach Disco and our final sports day, which is when we do all the races.  Thankfully the weather has been on our side and everything has gone to plan.  The last week of term is likely to be just as busy, if not busier to watch this space.

Here are photos of some of the highlights of the week . . .

Primary 7 fundraising news

Our activities this morning with Primary 1,2 and 3 were very successful. Everyone enjoyed it. At Basketball all the children were very active and kept trying for the high basket.  At Golf & Games we all had fun and we hope in the future to see some of our pupils on TV! The Football group game ended in a 5-0 victory for the red team, but both teams played very well.  Dance was great fun and ended in a Dance-off as the other groups came back to the Hall.

We are delighted to announce the total amount raised (from our Coffee and Cake event and the Activites this morning) is £53.97.

The money will be shared between P7 end of term treat and the fund for painting markings on our playground.

Thank you very much to everyone who joined in, gave money and helped us in our fundraising.  Thank you to Mrs Taylor for all the delicious baking.
