P1 Christmas Nativity Performance

https://vimeo.com/195791694

Our P1 pupils performed a fantastic nativity play “Wriggly Nativity” on Wednesday.  The P2 and P3 pupils supported as the choir and they were great too.

Well done to all the boys and girls and thank you for the help at home and a huge thank you and well done to Mrs Strachan and Miss Cave with Mrs Campbell, Miss McLennan, Ms Ross and Mrs Stanton.

Thinking Back Looking Forward Pupil Profiles – P2-P7

Today pupils in P2 – P7 will bring home their THINKING BACK LOOKING FORWARD profile for this term.    This is a profile of what your child sees as their progress in learning so far this session and also includes a summary of the pupils’ current strengths and next steps from the class teacher.  Pupils in nursery and P1 will have learning to share through the Online Learning Journals system.

This is a new approach to reporting to parents for us this term and – as discussed in September’s newsletter – it forms a part of our FAMILIES LEARNING TOGETHER – SHARING LEARNING programme which we are developing this session.

We hope you find these new mid-year profiles more useful that the old-format final report in June.  Please bring your copy along to your appointment on Wednesday or Thursday evening and you can discuss it with the teacher then.   All pupils took home an appointment slip for parent appointments on Friday – if you don’t have yours – please call the office.

Termly Learning Overviews – Term 1 2016/2017 (August-October)

Each term class teachers plan the areas of focus for this term’s learning.  These overviews are shared with home and with the pupils.  The overviews for this term below were sent home in September with each child.  You can check them here and download a copy of your child’s plan.  This can help frame a discussion with your child on what they are learning and where they are finding success or challenges.

Friday 7 October 11am – Families Learning Together – Session 1

Next Friday is our first Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning session.  This is for pupils in P2 to P7.  Anyone from home is welcome to come along and share the pupil’s learning.  Please ensure the reply slip is completed and returned so we know who is coming – for security.  The invite below is downloadable from the link – has been emailed – and is in each child’s bag.

If necessary – a simple note to the class teacher on whom to expect will be sufficient.  We look forward to seeing you then and are all very excited at building on our programme of developing home engagement with learning.

Term 4 Learning Overviews

Each term, teachers create a learning overview.  This is sent home with each child and a copy can be found here.  These are valuable sources of information to allow you to help your child at home with their learning.  Communication between home and school is a central part of making a difference for all children.

Primary 2

Our new topic is about Our Woodland and we have been looking at images of natural and man-made woodlands to identify how we can tell if a woodland is naturally growing.  We also made clay hedgehogs.

In Maths we have been learning to use symbols for more than and less than to solve simple equations.

In Drama we have been using play scripts to learn and present plays to the rest of our class.  This also links with our literacy as we are learning to tell the difference between a story and a play script.

Well done to Murron who completed her Rainbow promise and shared it with the rest of her class.

Primary 2

The children had a fabulous Red Nose Day on Friday and enjoyed the activities.  Miss Miller tested the children on spelling their common words and Miss Brennan and Miss Vermeulen worked together to teach the children how to make Red Nose Day bookmarks.

This week the children have been keen to spell out their common words so that they can improve on their previous score to move their arrow on our class target board.  In Maths they have been working on doubles and have played domino and playing card games to help them to remember their doubles facts.  They have also been exploring the similarities and differences between adult and baby animals and talked about how we can tell which family a baby animal is from.  Some of the baby animals were quite tricky to identify but children made links to books they had looked at in our class library and used this to identify the adult animal. The children were also very keen to talk about who they thought they looked most like in their family and why.  In Literacy this week the children wrote acrostic poems about Spring.  They discussed what an acrostic poem is and gave lots of ideas for words associated with Spring for use in their poems. DSCN1626

Glow Scotland

This week your child will bring home their Glow username and password. The weblink for Glow is https://glow.rmunify.com/ and it can be accessed through any device with an internet connection. As well as lots of educational resources, Glow provides access to your child’s school email account and Office 365. This allows your child to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint from anywhere with an internet connection, even if it is not installed on their device.

Once your child has successfully logged in they will be able to access the Apps available (including Brainpop and TigTag World). They will also be able to access the School Site by clicking on the App as pictured below.

At the moment the School Site is being developed and will contain more content as time goes on.

When your child logs on for the first time they will need to agree to the following Glow Community Rules:

Be Secure

Always keep your Glow password to yourself.

Always sign out of Glow when no longer using it.

Be Polite

Always treat others with respect.

Never post or share a message, document, image, video or any other other content that is inappropriate or likely to cause harm or offence to others.

Be Safe

Always remember to be careful when communicating over the internet – other users may not be who they seem.

Don’t share your personal details with other people.

Never agree to meet someone in person who you have only met on the internet unless accompanied by a parent, carer or other known and trusted adult.

Speak to an adult immediately if you see a message, image or anything else on the internet that concerns you

Be Legal

Never post or share a message, document, image, video or any other other content that you do not have permission to use.

Be Responsible

Always be mindful that once you put something online, that information may be beyond your control.

Never post or share a message, document, image, video or any other content online that you would not wish other learners, teachers, or parents to see.

Remember that anything you do can be traced back to you.

If you misuse Glow, this can be reported to your school.

Upper school pupils should have already accessed Glow in school and tried out a few of the resources available. If your child has any problems accessing Glow they should inform their class teacher or Miss Anderson.
