Primary 2-7 pupils signed up to their chosen golden time activity this week and had great fun playing with peers from different classes. All classes have been learning about Rights and Responsibilities since returning to school and article number 31 is a favourite – we have the right to play.
We would like to share with you what have been the learning highlights of our year.
Scientists in training!
Last week we were learning about water. When water is a solid it is ice. We held the ice in our hands until it melted. When ice thaws it makes water which is a liquid. When we heat water up in a kettle it becomes steam.
We then played the solid – liquid – steam game.
Last week it was health week. We did lots of different things to encourage us to be healthy. We got to try lots of new things! It was a very exciting week.
‘ I enjoyed learning a new dance routine to ‘Love Runs Out’, Mitchell
‘ I enjoyed doing the blind folded food tasting. I enjoyed the different foods.’ Connor V
‘ I liked doing Go Noodle with Miss McLennan’ Olivia P
‘ I enjoyed playing curling. I was very good at getting the curling stone onto the target’. Ryleigh
‘I liked making fruit sundaes with Miss McLaughlin’. Rachel
As part of our topic we have been presenting class talks about different things in our community. We have heard talks about football clubs which some of the children attend, we have heard about some great parks that people visit that are nearby and also some children talked about their karate club. The children presented their talks very confidently to the whole class and they were very interesting.
After yesterday’s karate input our Health Week continued today with the first set of a series of carousel activities. Â This is where each member of staff offers a 30 minute activity and pupils, in their Pumphie Pals groups, rotate around these. Â On the carousel today and tomorrow are:
Last week we enjoyed lots of talks from parents who came in to tell us about their jobs. We met Mr Mellor who talked to us about being a Head Chef, Mr Fish told us all about being a fire fighter, Sarah Jane told us all about being an archeologist. We also had a talk from Kelly who is a hairdresser. We learned lots of things about the world of work and it has given us some ideas
about what we would like to do when we are older.
As part of our Community Project we looked at the area around the school to see what was there. We saw the new houses being built, the orchard, the big field where we have sports day and the BMX track. We developed our skills in mapping by drawing a map of the area around the school.
Measure!
We have been measuring length, weight and volume. We know lots of language for measure!
