Primary 2

Morning little ones!

Molly has now arrived at Edinburgh Airport to begin her journey to Russia for the FIFA World Cup. Thank you for your hard work on the suitcase task – she now has everything she needs to travel!

She was very excited (but also very tired) when she reached the airport this morning. Her teacher, Miss Russell, has promised to keep us updated with all of the exciting things they get up to!

For now Molly, Прощай (‘proshchay’ – goodbye in Russian)! Have a wonderful trip and we will see you soon!

Transition

It’s that time of year when we start thinking about moving on. Our Primary 7 and pre-school children have already started their transition journey over the past few weeks and months.

Transition Challenge

As part of Health Week,  P1 – P7 have been set a transition challenge to teach the new children coming into their stage about their learning, achievements and events this year.

Here is an example of the P7 challenge:

Here are the P6s hard work completing the challenge:

Watch this space for the final results!

Moving up Morning

On the 19th June we will have our moving up afternoon when our children will have the opportunity to meet their new teachers.

Class Structure

Currently our class structure for next session is:

  • P1
  • P2
  • P2
  • P3
  • P4
  • P5
  • P6
  • P7

*This is our current structure, however we are still awaiting our final numbers for Primary 1, so this may be subject to change if our numbers increase.

Primary 2 Make Medicines

What were we learning?

To create a solution for a design challenge.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We used our knowledge of plants, herbs and spices to choose ingredients that would help Molly.
  • We created a plan to show which ingredients we had chosen.
  • We used our plan to make the medicines.

What did we do?

Molly is still feeling the effects of the flu, so Miss McLaughlin gave us a design challenge – make a medicine to help her feel better! We used her symptoms list and chose ingredients that would fix these. We chose things like lavender, which would help her sleep. We chose willow bark, which would help with aches and pains and fever. We also collected daisies from the grass outside, which would help with fighting the flu. We then collected our ingredients, and mixed them together in our own medicine bottles.

Miss McLaughlin sat with Molly while she taste-tested the medicines (it was definitely not easy!).

Molly had to make a decision on which medicine she felt helped her the most and had a clear plan to match it.

She chose Peyton’s medicine! Well done – you’ve earned 5 Dojo points!

Primary 2 will be hosting a ‘sharing the learning’ event on Wednesday 27th June at 2.00. Parents are invited along to learn more about our medicines and join us for some afternoon tea. Miss McLaughlin will also send a letter home this week with the date and time. We would love to see you there!

Check in with us next week to see what we are learning!

Until next time…

Primary 2 – DYW Photos

We got to meet lots of interesting people this week and learned lots about the different jobs they do!

On Tuesday, Mrs Edwards came in to develop our team-building skills! We had to work as groups to build different transport using only marshmallows and spaghetti! We then talked about what behaviours worked well for team-work (e.g. taking turns, good listening) and those which didn’t (e.g. people being left out). Thank you for coming to work with us!

Can you guess which form of transport each group made?

We also learned more this week about manufacturing, the different jobs a fire fighter has to do and the role of a midwife. Thank you to Kristy and Jane from Dawnfresh, Mr Fish and Mrs Gent for spending time with us!
