Bonjour! Here are some photos of Primary 1/2 having their snack in the French cafe style last week. Â Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 have been learning about different French food and got to taste baguette as they drank their milk.
We used french to say please and thank you to the waiters and to count out the money to pay the bill at the end. Â Au revoir!
In RME this week we listened carefully to the CBeebies radio show about Leo’s special day – Easter Sunday. We learned that he had spent the day hunting eggs on a farm, rolling some eggs down a hill, then his mum cooked the eggs and he had one for lunch with toast soldiers.
We thought about what we did at Easter in our families. Then we recorded our own radio show! Mrs Hull is hoping to add it to the blog very soon so you can listen to the things we did at Easter. It’s very eggciting to hear our voices on the computer. How did you celebrate in the Easter holidays? Leave your comments here for us to see.
In Primary 1/2 this week we have been learning all about the landscape of the coldest part of Russia. We also learned about the animals that live there. We discovered that reindeer, polar bears, arctic foxes, lemmings, walrus, seals, wolves, hares, elk and snowy owls live in the area called the tundra. We drew some of the animals we learned about for our Russian display.
On Monday Barnaby Bear got a letter and two tickets to other countries. The letter asked him to find out about these places before he could visit them. Each class chose one ticket. We chose the one to Russia so we talked about what we know about Russia. This turned out to be quite a lot. We talked a lot about the Winter Olympics and what we thought it would be like there. We decided to look for it on the class globe to see how far away it was from us – it is a very long way away and some parts are quite close to the North Pole. We decided the first thing we needed to learn about was the weather and what Barnaby would need to pack. We used Google (Jamie’s idea) and information we had in a book about a boy called Sasha who lives in Siberia in Russia. We have been writing lists for Barnaby to help him pack for his trip. We have some other plans so watch this space.
On Monday we went on a walk around Pumpherston with our new visitor Barnaby Bear. We took him to see the sights of Pumpherston. He had a shot on the swings at the park and saw some lovely spring flowers as well as finding some good places to eat. Barnaby will be with us for some time so look out for him in other places.
This week, the Red & Blue groups have been taking their work outdoors! We have been playing ‘Spell a Snowman’ – a game which helps us learn our common words! We usually play it on our own with our jotters, but this time we worked as a team! We each were given a common word and if we spelled it correctly, we got to build a piece of our snowman. The first team to build their snowman wins!
The Yellow group are still waiting to play ‘Spell a Snowman’. The Red & Blue groups had some ideas for how they could do well at the game!
‘They could take their common words from their homework folder and maybe practise them at home.’ Abigail
Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 are looking forward to more outdoor learning with sounds!
This week one of the things we have been learning is about symmetrical patterns. We made our own patterns on butterflies and predicted what would happen when we folded them in half. We also looked at symmetrical shapes and predicted from half a shape what it would be once it was completed.Â
Challenge – At home look for symmetrical shapes and patterns and leave a message on the blog telling us what you found. Use the address in your homework diary to post what you found.
Early bird pupils were able to cheer on the raising of our Green flag as it was put in place first thing this morning! What a fantastic start to our week.
The Eco committee are still working hard on keeping our school recycling systems going, and encouraging everyone to use the litter bins. This month it is Primary 1 and 1/2 turn on the litter picking duty, so we’re sure the playground will be clean and clear.Â
We are also planning an exciting competition which will take place in March. More details will follow, but in the meantime if you have an entertaining talent, keep practicing…
We noticed last week that some of the bulbs planted in the front border are already poking their leaves up to look for the sun, so it won’t be long til spring. Keep your eyes open and let us know if you see anything interesting growing in and around our grounds.
