P1m Reflective Learning
Â
This week P1m made fairytale puppets. We chose our characters, then drew them and painted them. Once they were dry we cut them out and then stuck them on to a straw. Once they were finished, we made fairytales with them on the carpet.
Well done P1m – your puppets were amazing :)!
P1m Fairyland
This week P1m started making their Fairyland houses. We are turning our whole class into Fairyland. We made stuff to put on the wall. One group will be making a Fairyland shop, where you can buy lunch and see Rapunzel working. One group made a witch’s house, where she can make potions to try and kidnap Rapunzel. One group made the stick house from the Three Little Pigs and another group made the straw house. Both were very messy! One group made the Gingerbread house, where the Gingerbread Man lives. And the final group made the Three Bears’ house, where Goldilocks is hiding!
Come and peek in at our Fairyland display 🙂
We know how to keep safe with electricity!
On Wednesday James from Scottish Power came to our school to talk to each class about electricity. He told us all about electric cables and how we can stay safe with switches, plugs and power boxes.
Here are some facts we remembered:
- Plugs have 230 volts in them.
- We should switch off switches to help us keep safe.
- Trains take 1 mile to stop.
- There were 3 cables the orange one was for the garden, the black one is for your TV and the white one is for the kitchen.
- Insulators are materials like rubber that electricity can’t travel through.
- It can travel through conductors.
- Power boxes are extremely dangerous and we shouldn’t go near them.
We got to hold 2 different big electricity cables. James had a black crow with a yellow nose called Sparky to help teach the little classes about being safe.                                                                                             Â

P1m – ‘A Good Lesson…’
This week P1m were talking about what a ‘good’ lesson looks like. We had lots of good ideas!
- We need to know what we’re learning and why
- We need to know how we’re going to learn
- We have to think if we can use Lenny (our link lizard) if we can use what we already know
- Everyone should be listening
- Miss McLaughlin should say things in a way we can understand them
- We should learn in lots of different ways (writing/drawing, the smartboard, acting, etc)
- We should learn with lots of different people
- Miss McLaughlin, a partner or I should check how I know I have learned
- A lesson should not run late
- We should think about what we have to do next
A big list for Miss McLaughlin to think about!
P1m 🙂
Scot’s Afternoon
This week saw our very successful Scot’s afternoon for the senior citizens of Pumpherston and Uphall Station as well as many of our parents and grandparents. Â The children all worked hard to learn a selection of Scot’s poems and a several traditional scot’s songs and P5 learned a dance, which they performed with great enthusiasm. Â The afternoon was a great success and the audience appeared to enjoy it thoroughly.

P1a Learning
This week was very exciting.Taffy our class dragon got a letter from his cousin George. The letter told Taffy that all the buildings in Fairyland had been destroyed in a bad storm. Taffy was asked to help. We decided to help Taffy and all the characters in Fairyland to build new houses, castles, caves and a tree house. This morning we made plans for the three little pig’s houses and next week we are going to build the houses from our plans. We are very excited! We are using our skills in working together. We also learned to tell the time using digital clocks and our next step is to match clock faces to digital times. We are going to try to practice reading the o’clock times at home. Let us know how you get on.
P1m Reflective Learning
This week P1m started some drama about fairytales. We made houses for fairytale characters using our bodies. We have also been learning about still image. We made scenes from Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs. We used our faces to show how we were feeling, but didn’t use our voices.
Til next week…
