Primary 1

Jack: We found out about things that need electricity and how to keep safe. Never put your fingers near the socket.

Caitlin: I’ve been counting forwards and backwards and adding groups to see how much I have altogether.

James: Zoolab came and I saw a turtle and snake. I touched the snake.

Sorley: We have made a hospital in the class. I am a Doctor and Kyle was the patient.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning how to tell the time. We can now tell o’clock times on a digital and analogue clock. We played different games to help us with our learning, like the minute game and “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?”

In Science, after learning about the Sun, we wrote some interesting facts about it and drew a picture of the Sun after looking at pictures of the Sun in space.

We have been learning how to stay safe around fireworks and drew firework pictures using pastels.

Online Learning Journals

Our nursery and P1 Online Learning Journals are now live.  You have received information on how to log in.

We hope you enjoy sharing your child’s learning through these journals and login regularly to view, share and discuss what your child is learning and the progress they are making.

We especially like comments from home being added to build a fuller picture of your child’s learning and life.

If you are having difficulty accessing the Journals please speak to your child’s teacher or Miss Morrison at school.

We will be providing further information in a few weeks to be sure that everyone is comfortable using the system.

Termly Learning Overviews – Term 1 2016/2017 (August-October)

Each term class teachers plan the areas of focus for this term’s learning.  These overviews are shared with home and with the pupils.  The overviews for this term below were sent home in September with each child.  You can check them here and download a copy of your child’s plan.  This can help frame a discussion with your child on what they are learning and where they are finding success or challenges.

Primary 1

P1 have been learning some simple Italian phrases as part of our focus on Languages this week. We also found out about popular Italian foods and made our own pizza and pasta on paper plates!

As part of our Toys topic this week, we had a special visitor in school from the Toy Museum who brought in old toys for us to learn about and play with. We had great fun!

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been ordering their numbers to 5 this week and practising our number formation. Our first topic in Primary 1 is Toys and we wrote about what our favourite toy was . We also learned about the different types of materials that toys are made from.

Peyton: Some toys are made from plastic like my zoomer.

Isla: I have lots of mermaids and I love to play with them.

Tyler: I have hundreds of hot wheels and they are made of metal.

Finlay: I like to play with building blocks.

Primary 1

Along with all their sporting activities for health week, the boys and girls have been working really hard to prepare for their assembly. They really enjoyed sharing their learning about life cycles with the rest of the school and their grown-ups on Thursday.

Primary 1 have also been busy at home, creating models and pictures of different life cycles to present and explain to their classmates. Take a look at some examples below.

Term 4 Learning Overviews

Each term, teachers create a learning overview.  This is sent home with each child and a copy can be found here.  These are valuable sources of information to allow you to help your child at home with their learning.  Communication between home and school is a central part of making a difference for all children.

Primary 1

Primary 1 are very excited about their learning next week as special visitors are coming to the classroom!

On Monday, live chicken eggs will be arriving for us to care for. We will learn all about the life cycle of a chicken and hopefully witness the chicks hatching too!

We talked about the things that we would like to learn about chickens and eggs next week.                                         Here are some of our questions:

Kayden: How do the chicks get out of the eggs?

Eilidh: Why do chickens lay eggs?

Aiden: Where will they sleep at night?

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning about travelling safely. We learnt about the different types of crossings we can use to help us to cross a road safely and made a variety of crossings to help the characters on our classroom street. We later went out into the playground to act out how we would cross a road, remembering to stop, look and listen.

This week we have also been planting potatoes. We are looking forward to seeing them grow and in the meantime we will be watering them every day and hoping the sun shines to help them along!
