Primary 2/1

This week, Primary 2/1 have been making preparations for ‘Wriggly Nativity’!

Primary 1 parts have now been allocated and costumes fitted (there is no need for parents/carers to provide costumes). Primary 2 will form the choir for this year’s performance.

Nativity performances will take place on Thursday 14th December at 9.30am and 2.00pm. More information about these performances will follow in due course.

Please use the link below if your child would like to practise some of the songs at home:

Many thanks,
Miss McLaughlin 🙂

Primary 1  and Primary 2/1 are now busy learning the songs for this year’s nativity.  If you would like to support your child in learning the songs, all songs  for the nativity can be found on the link  below:

Primary 2/1

This week, Primary 2/1 have been participating in block play.

Below, you can see some of the creations different groups came up with. They made designs using wooden blocks, natural materials and small world items.

Can you guess what each design is?

Check in with us again next week to see what else we have been learning!

STEM Challenge

To finish off our Chance and Probability topic, we have completed a STEM challenge. We made theoretical predictions about coin toss and dice rolling. We carried out a series of challenges to see if our expectations were correct.

Primary 1

Primary 1 were happy to receive their Book Bug bag this week. We enjoyed listening to the stories and took part in activities relating to the books. We read “Penelope Snoop, Ace Detective.” After reading, we designed our own rocket to travel to space and packed our own suitcase, drawing everything we wanted to take with us.
We read the book “5 bears: A tale of friendship” then made fur for our own bear and clothes for them to wear.
Our book bag contained our first minibeast book so we designed our own butterfly and decorated its wings.
Thank you to all of the parents and carers  who came to our reading events on Thursday and Friday.  We appreciate your support.

Primary 2/1

On Friday, Primary 2/1 brought home their ‘Wonderful Week of Learning’ jotters. These jotters are used each term to show what learning looks like across a week.

We would love it if you could take some time to look at your child’s learning and talk to them about it. I am also happy if you would like to leave comments/sticky notes on certain pieces of work. Primary 2/1 have been working so hard and it would be lovely to see what you think!

‘Wonderful Week of Learning’ jotters should be returned to school at some point next week.

Also, a massive ‘thank you’ to all of the parents, carers and friends who came to our reading events on Thursday/Friday. We really appreciate you taking the time to support your child.

I especially loved the efforts from Team Manson for our ‘create a bear’ challenge and couldn’t resist sharing a picture of their work!

Many thanks,
Miss McLaughlin 🙂

P6 Classroom Learning Update

Today in class we have been learning about Hinduism. We explored the festival of Diwali to find out more about how Hindu’s celebrate, why they celebrate and create our very own Diva Lamps.

We will wait for them to dry overnight and then we will decorate them tomorrow.

Nalan was our expert today, showing us examples of real Diva Lamps alongside giving us tips on how to create our own.

Primary 1

Primary 1 were visited last week by the friendly dragon from Fairyland. He asked for our help.  We completed our first challenge which was to make new homes for the 3 little pigs. We listened to the fairy tale, made our own pig puppets, and then created new homes for the pigs using different materials.

We have learning about the different seasons and talking about signs of Autumn, we created our own Autumn trees by tinfoil printing with paint.

In RME, we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We watched a little girl called Jessica prepare for the festival and enjoy the celebrations. We talked about times in the year that we have celebrations with our own family.

Primary 2/1

This week, Primary 2/1 participated in money-based challenges linked to ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’.

We:

  • Practised making given amounts using concrete materials (Circles were building amounts to £1 using 10p and 1p coins; Squares were building amounts to 10 using Numicon pieces).
  • Participated in shop role-play to practise buying the items George wanted.
  • Designed/priced our own clothing items to sell in the ‘shop’.
  • Did coin rubbing activities with crayons and paper.

We are still awaiting more clues to find out who our mystery mail-person is!

Check in with us again soon to see what else we have been learning!
