Primary 1 Weekly Blog

This week Primary 1 have been effective contributors, working together in groups to design and construct a castle using wooden blocks. We were practising our teamwork and communication skills to share the blocks and build together. We were also able to talk about the different features of our construction and the shapes we had used. You can view photos of our work by clicking on our Sway link. https://sway.office.com/wLD1fQFIvoDsRjcA?ref=Link

Today we dressed up or down for Children in Need. We discussed how the charity helps children and designed our own Pudsey Bear faces.

We also received Bookbug bags and had the opportunity to explore the contents with our peers. We read Inch and Grub together as a class, making predictions about what we thought might happen next.

Primary 3

This week, Primary 3 were given their ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags.

They are always a lovely resource for the children to receive and this year is no exception!

Each bag contains:

  • A copy of ‘Octopus Shocktopus’
  • A copy of ‘The Last Wolf’
  • A Parent Club booklet full of activity ideas for you to use with your children
  • A notebook and pencil
  • A whiteboard marker
  • A measuring tape
  • A set of story and routine cards (these are REALLY good!)

Below is a link to the Parent Club website if you would like more information about ‘Read, Write, Count’:

Blog Post – Primary 6

Today we took part in various activities to show our support of Children in Need.

We learned about the history of Children in Need through a literacy based task, which provided us with the knowledge to create a quiz for our classmates and adults at home.

During our smart start, we were given the opportunity to create a t-shirt in support of Children in Need where we were able to show our creativity.

We took part in a Dance-a-thon alongside Primary 7 pupils using our outdoor area. We enjoyed showing off our dance moves. We were lucky enough to have our very own judge helping us score some of the dances too!

P2/1 Weekly Blog

Primary 1’s were given their Bookbug bags today and P2 received their Read,Write,Count bags as part of Book Week Scotland.

The P1 books are Arb The Lion and Inch and Grub. The P2  children have The Bug Collector and The Biggest Story.

All the boys and girls had great fun exploring their book bags together and trying out some of the fun activities in the bags.

Primary 6 Update

This week we completed various activities relating to Remembrance Day.

The whole school took part in a one minute silence, which provided an opportunity to reflect and remember all those who fought for our country. To remember the soldiers who have died in the wars both past and present.

We were set a challenge to create a piece of artwork that would convey a message about this important day in history. We used pupil choice to select one of the following options, which focused on using a range of different art techniques:

  • Pointillism Poppies
  • Stained Glass Window Soldiers
  • Flanders Field

Primary 3

For this block of Science, Primary 3 will be learning about water.

This week, we brainstormed everything that we knew about water (e.g. it is wet, used for drinking and washing, comes in the form of rain, it can change into ice and steam). Then, Miss McLaughlin set us a challenge – there were little plastic people trapped inside a block of ice! We had to work in teams to find the best way to free them. See the photos below for our findings. #successfullearners

P2/1

P2/1 were  Successful Learners this week. As part of our Fairyland topic, Taffy the dragon set us a challenge to design a shoe for Cinderella’s wedding. Our shoe design had to include the following:

  • a heel
  • buttons or straps
  • no bright colours
  • a silver or gold badge.

We successfully completed our designs and sent them to Taffy to show Cinderella.

Primary 1

To mark Bonfire Night, Primary 1 used paint and coloured chalk to recreate the shapes and colours of fireworks exploding in the sky. We also talked about how to keep safe around fireworks.

Within numeracy this week, Primary 1 have begun learning how to use money. So far we have looked at the value of different coins and practised counting up 1p, 2p and 5p coins to find a total.

Primary 6’s Amazing Week of Work

Dear parents/carers,

We would like to share our learning from this week with you. We have had a fantastic week where we have worked hard to demonstrate the school values.

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to find the value of each digit in a 5 or 6 digit number. We have also been extending our knowledge of place value where we participated in various active maths activities such as Place Value Castle and Cards.

In Literacy, we have been exploring our new class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class and focusing on our different spelling patterns. We have learned about the features of a persuasive piece of writing and taken part in a class game of Countdown.

We have also been introduced to our new piece of writing for this term, which is an exposition. We explored the purpose and audience for this type of text and we are looking forward to getting started.

In PE, we had our first lesson on Volleyball and Badminton with both Miss Walkingshaw and Mrs McConville.

In RME, we explored the 5 main religions and beliefs from around the world. Over the coming weeks, Mrs McConville will explore this with us.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and keep safe.
