P6 meet their nursery buddies

We have been getting to know our nursery buddies over the past few weeks.   Attached are some pictures of some of us with our afternoon buddies.  We have lots of super ideas of ways to help our buddies prepare for starting school in August and will update you on our progress with these soon!

What a Tree-mendous Day

Friday saw the planting of our long awaited orchard, and what a lovely day it was.  The sun was shining and everything went according to plan.  We now have trees for eating apples, cooking apples, pears and plums.  Each class got to visit during the planting and were able to taste some of the types of apples that we will be growing.

Which ones will we be growing?
This is tree-mendous hard work

Standing in the orchard area reminded us of how lucky we are to have such a wonderful school in such a scenic area.  We have so many learning opportunities right on our doorstep and we are planning on making the very best of what we have over the coming months and years.

Eco week in P2

As part of Eco week P2 had to find out about our school Eco code.  At the beginning of the week the children knew where to find it but could not remember what was written in it.   We decided to learn the Eco code in the style of a rap and by the end of the week the children were able to recall every single line!  They had great fun learning the rap and performed it for the rest of the school at our Eco assembly.

P1 Eco Week

Primary 1 had lots of fun during Eco Week! We designed our own planters and then spruced up the ones by the kickpitch! We pulled out the weeds and planted new seeds! We also went on a Spring Litter Pick – you can see how much we collected in the photo! We also helped the team on Friday to plant apple and plum trees for our orchard. We can’t wait to see the trees grow.

Eco week in P5

This week our Eco challenge was to find playground games which can be put onto the ground of the playground. The one we picked for the younger children was a colourful caterpillar with the numbers up to twenty on it. We liked lots of designs for the older children and could not decide which one to pick. Some liked the bubble target and others liked the circle target. What we decided to do was to draw our favourite designs and give them to Molly to take to the next Pupil Council meeting. That way the whole school can be involved in what design should be picked. We were also involved in a litter pick and very much enjoyed helping to plant the orchard on Friday.

By the way……………… In case you have forgotten P5 are going to camp next week!

Primary 4

We have had a very busy first week back in Primary 4 with lots of Eco challenges to complete.  Our main challenge was to find out where the sun shone on our playground.  We recorded this on a map and by taking photos at 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm.  Below are some photos of the playground at different times of the day.

What’s going on in Primary 6 this week?

Primary 6 have been very busy in our first week back at school.

We have been finishing our newspaper reports about the Titanic.  We realised that we were writing them on the 101st anniversary of the Titanic sinking.  We are going to make them look old by using coffee and tea to stain the paper.

In maths some people were learning about improper and mixed fractions.  We like it because we do lots of different activites to help us learn.

We had an eco challenge to find out which are the tastiest apples and pears and which ones grow in Scotland.  We tasted a range of varieties and collected data about our classes favourites.  We presented our data on a graph using apple and pear designs.

P6 and P7  went down to Uphall Station Park to give it a spring clean from litter.  We think we did a great job!

Have a nice weekend!
