Primary 2

Our new topic is about Our Woodland and we have been looking at images of natural and man-made woodlands to identify how we can tell if a woodland is naturally growing.  We also made clay hedgehogs.

In Maths we have been learning to use symbols for more than and less than to solve simple equations.

In Drama we have been using play scripts to learn and present plays to the rest of our class.  This also links with our literacy as we are learning to tell the difference between a story and a play script.

Well done to Murron who completed her Rainbow promise and shared it with the rest of her class.

Primary 1 and 1/2

It has been a very exciting week in Primary 1 and 1/2! On Monday, our chicken eggs arrived and over the course of the week we have had the pleasure of seeing 8 little chicks hatch. We witnessed the chicks ‘pipping’ on Wednesday (where they started to peck to get out of the shell) and by Thursday we had 4 lively little chicks. The remaining chicks started pipping after lunch on Thursday afternoon and we found 4 more little chicks waiting to meet us on Friday morning!

We have learnt so much about chickens and how to care for them this week! We drew each stage in the life cycle of a chicken and wrote fact-files about chicks and chickens to display on the wall for any visitors to see.

We are looking forward to seeing how much the chicks have grown when we get back to school!

Primary 1

In Maths this week, Primary 1 have been learning how to subtract numbers. We discussed the different methods we can use to find an answer, including taking cubes away from a group, counting down on our fingers and counting backwards in our head.

In Science, we have been learning about how different living things grow and develop. We grew plants from seeds, made a floorbook to showthe life cycle of a frog and sequenced the stages in the life cycle of a chicken. From Monday, P1 and P1/2 will have live chicken eggs to look after so we can learn about the development of a chicken in real time. We can’t wait! IMG_0037

Primary 1/2

We have been learning about chicks this week. We were drawing chicks today; we drew yellow dots and then we put on legs, eyes, beak and made every chick a little bit different.  In our groups we made big pictures to show what we know about the life cycle of a chicken, and what they need to grow big and strong.

We were learning about caring people as part of Rights Respecting schools. We know children have the right to live with their parents or someone who cares for them.

Primary 7

Primary 7 made the decision about their prom theme just before the holidays.  It was a difficult decision with so many great ideas on the board.

We finally got it down to 4 choices and had a class vote.

The theme we have chosen is ‘The Oscars’.

We would be really grateful if anyone who has any decorations that match this theme could let us know.   We are going to have a busy term making things and  planning for our special evening.

Primary 6 say farewell

This week in Primary 6 has been bittersweet – we have had lots of fun but are having to say goodbye to our teachers. Miss Anderson loved her assembly this afternoon – there were tears of joy and of sadness. She was delighted with her awards, flowers and cards. Never before has she had a song written and performed for her! Thank-you to the pupils and staff for organising such a fun afternoon, it was definitely memorable.

We have finished learning about keeping safe and growing up, Miss Anderson has been impressed with how mature and sensible pupils in Primary 6 can be. Next term will be another opportunity to demonstrate this whilst working with our Nursery Buddies. We will find out who we are paired with on the first Thursday back after the Easter break.

So for the last time – goodbye from Primary 6 and Miss Anderson, we hope you all have a lovely holiday!

Primary 6 Safely Observe the Solar Eclipse

This morning Primary 6 enjoyed taking part in celebrating the solar eclipse. Because it wasn’t safe to look at the sun we decided to make a sound recording. When we listened back it was definitely quieter, with fewer birds chirping. We also set up a stop motion recording to see how the light changed from start to end of the eclipse. We hope to upload this video soon.

We spent quite a bit of time learning more about solar eclipses. We worked with a partner to create a poster or leaflet with more information. These are on display on our classroom window so please take a look next time you are passing by.

Next  week we are going to start learning about staying safe and we will complete the Keeping Myself Safe programme. The following week we are going to learn more about babies and growing up.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Anderson & P6

Primary 2

The children had a fabulous Red Nose Day on Friday and enjoyed the activities.  Miss Miller tested the children on spelling their common words and Miss Brennan and Miss Vermeulen worked together to teach the children how to make Red Nose Day bookmarks.

This week the children have been keen to spell out their common words so that they can improve on their previous score to move their arrow on our class target board.  In Maths they have been working on doubles and have played domino and playing card games to help them to remember their doubles facts.  They have also been exploring the similarities and differences between adult and baby animals and talked about how we can tell which family a baby animal is from.  Some of the baby animals were quite tricky to identify but children made links to books they had looked at in our class library and used this to identify the adult animal. The children were also very keen to talk about who they thought they looked most like in their family and why.  In Literacy this week the children wrote acrostic poems about Spring.  They discussed what an acrostic poem is and gave lots of ideas for words associated with Spring for use in their poems. DSCN1626

Primary 3 Chefs

Primary 3 have been learning how to prepare healthy food, and trying new tastes in class.  Last week’s team made a delicious cous cous salad with a range of vegetables. This week the team of chefs made a refreshing fruit salad.  Any ideas of other simple recipes we can try, which will help us learn how to chop, cut, peel and grate?
