What a Spooky Bunch P5!
For writing this week, P5 created Halloween acrostic poems. They were able to use their disco outfits to inspire some of their ideas and descriptive language.
We will post some of the fantastic poems soon.

This term we have been learning about WWII. The children have researched information about key events in WWII to complete a class scrapbook as well as researching leaders involved with WWII as a homework task to be shared with their peers. Key events were also explored in order to compare and contrast the impact on individuals and families during WWII with present day living.
Thank you to Connell and Emma who brought in artefacts from WWII to share with the class.
On the last day of term the children received a presentation about the Holocaust from Lucia and Lewis from St Margaret’s Academy in Livingston. Lucia and Lewis have recently returned from a trip to Krakow as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project. They were selected by their school to attend the one day trip which is run by the Holocaust Educational Trust. As part of their next steps towards becoming Lessons from Auschwitz Ambassadors, they have delivered their presentation to several P7 classes at St Margaret’s Academy, our own P7 class and will continue to present to other P7 classes. The children were a super audience who were really engaged in the presentation and asked lots of questions to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust.
P5 Game Designers
We have been busy this week creating maths games to help people to learn their tables. In pairs we shared ideas and agreed on a plan. We had to make the game along with instructions and equipment. It was great fun testing our games then sharing with others.

Nursery news
The children in Nursery have been learning about our school rules, and telling each other how we make our school the best it can be. Have a look at their great ideas!
P5 travel back to a Scottish Royal Burgh!
Primary 5 visited Linlithgow today to find out more about life in the past. They have lots more to share so keep your eye out!

Primary 5 have been building a compost column so they can observe micro-organisms at work. We are going to make more next week and add different materials.

Scottish Government Consultation on Early Learning and Childcare
The Scottish Government has proposed to increase the provision of free childcare to 1140 hours per year for children who are 3 or 4 years old, as well as for 2 year olds whose parents/carers are on qualifying benefits and are eligible for the 600 hours free entitlement through the Children & Young People’s Act 2014. With this in mind we are conducting a survey exploring how parents would wish to use this increase. The results of this survey will help guide policy on early years child care provision. In order for the survey to produce representative results it is important that we reach as many parents of 3 or 4 year old children from as wide a variety of back grounds as possible, this includes those who do not currently use free child-care provision.
