Primary 7

The art of Chinese paper cutting has been prized for many thousands of years. Paper cuts are used for decoration, given as gifts, and are regarded as lucky. Traditional paper cuts often showed celebrations, weddings and feasts, but now all sorts of motifs are used. The children in P7 have been using their line drawing and cutting skills to create Chinese Paper Cut artwork. Here are some of their designs.

The children also used their drawing and cutting skills to create temples. They blended chalk pastels to create a sunset background.

Primary 1 have been extremely busy this week, learning how to look after their community and environment. We started by making characters and a street to create our own community for our classroom.

On Wednesday morning, we were shocked to find that our new street was covered in litter! We learned how litter can affect the environment and then worked together to think of ways to clean it up and stop it from happening again. We made posters to show the characters on our street what to do with their litter and went outside with litter pickers to make sure our playground was tidy too.

Next week we’d like to learn more about recycling rubbish and practise sorting used containers and materials into recycling groups in class.

Primary 7

This week we have been working on fractions of a quantity and equivalent fractions.

In French, the children have been completing a crossword based on French words associated with families.

In Science, the children have been working in groups on their new animal discovery. The children explored and discussed animal adaptation cards to discover how animals have adapted to suit their environment.   They were then given the task to create a new species of animal that has adapted to suit the local/school environment.

In P.E. this week the children enjoyed learning ball skills in Futsal.

Well done to Cameron, Victor and Paul who were our finalists in the Scots poetry recitals. Congratulations to Paul who was chosen to recite the poem at our Scots assembly.

Primary 1

This week we have been learning all about electricity. We identified items that are powered by mains electricity or batteries and learned how to stay safe around electrical items.

In Maths, we have been learning how to count up coins. We can recognise and count up 1p, 2p and 5p coins to find how much there is. We know that we have to remember to write p for pence after the total.

Primary 5

Happy New Year from everyone in P5!

P5 have had a busy week at school. We started the week by meeting Miss Brown who will be teaching in Primary 5 as well as Miss McLennan.

We have been finishing off our time topic in maths. We all need to keep practising our time skills by using clocks outside of school and looking at different travel timetables.

Our famous Scot focus is Alexander Graham Bell. We have learned about his life and what led him to inventing the telephone. We have designed our own phones and look forward to building them next week. Please remember to bring in packaging for junk modelling ASAP.

We’re looking forward to Miss Brown starting our new topic with us on Monday. Can anyone guess what it might be from these scrambled word clues?

Primary 1 have been learning all about minibeasts this week. We talked about why we need minibeasts in the environment and worked together to create a bug hotel in the playground to give them a place to stay.

We learnt that some minibeasts, such as ladybirds, like to hibernate so we hope they will choose to spend the winter in our hotel!
