Primary 3

Last week lots of us bet our best score in Big Maths Beat That!

We have been learning lots in our new topic: Islands.

In the Isle of Coll there can be lots of rain. (Maja)

In Madagascar it can be very hot and rainy. (Ellie G)

Madagascar is quite different from other countries as their winter is hotter than their summer.   The months are different to ours. (Aaron)

There are no trees on Coll as it’s too windy.  (Mathew)

Primary 1/2

As part of our work within Social Studies, we have been looking at the differences between services in the local area and on the fictional Isle of Struay in the Katie Morag stories.

We went out for a walk around the area to find out about the different types of houses, shops and services nearby. We saw lots of cottages and semi-detached houses. We wrote a list of the features of each place and discovered that Pumpherston and Uphall Station has more shops and services than Katie Morag’s island.

Here are some of the other things we have been doing this week:

Millie: ‘I liked learning numbers and colours in French.’

Aiden: ‘I liked Big Maths Beat That test because it was fun.’

Brooke: ‘I liked reading this week.’

Emily: ‘I made terraced houses.’

Primary 1

As part of our Katie Morag topic, we went for a walk around Pumpherston so that we could compare services found in Pumpherston with those found on Katie Morag’s Isle of Struay. We then created a list comparing the different services found in each place. Primary 1 voted on which place they would rather live, Struay or Pumpherston. Everyone voted for Pumpherston!

Rainforest Topic

We were finding out about the canopy layer of the rainforest.  The height of the canopy layer is 30 metres. We went outside into the playground to measure this. We were using our maths skills in our topic.

I have enjoyed playing games to learn number bonds. (Lilly)

I have enjoyed watching the Katie Morag programme and writing my Katie Morag story (Ellie Grieve)

I have enjoyed playing the number bond to 100 games  (Darcy)

I enjoyed our silly daily mile as we were walking around the lamp posts. (Tatiana)

Calum, Jake, Ellie G, Maja and Rosa have shared their learning with Miss Morrison this week.

Well done everyone in P3!

P6 Weekly Blog

This week we have been using fractions in maths and have learnt how to change fractions to decimals and percentages. In health and well being we have been learning how to keep ourselves safe. We talked about trust and peer pressure and made acrostic poems to show our understanding. In our writing we have been analysing different types of poems and looking for rhythmic patterns, onomatopoeia, alliteration and personification.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning how to double numbers this week. We have been using strategies such as counting on our fingers or drawing pictures to find the answer. In writing, we have been learning how to use adjectives. We all wrote about one of our classmates, using adjectives to describe them. This is what Sophie-Rose wrote about Ola:

Ola has brown hair and she has a pony tail. Ola has brown pretty eyes. Ola has ladybug earings. She has a dress and white top. Ola is helpful. I like playing doctors with Ola.
