Primary 5

Primary 5 will be hosting an open afternoon to showcase the results of their ‘Medieval Market’ project.

It will take place on Wednesday 28th June at 2.00pm. Parents, carers and friends of the school are invited to attend. Stuart, from the West Lothian Courier, will also be there to take photographs. Please let us know if you would not like your child to be photographed.

We look forward to seeing you there!

P1 Weekly Blog

Primary 1 performed their assembly today all about life cycles. The class had a great time sharing their learning. Thank you to all the parents and carers for coming to support us. Here is what some of the class said about our assembly:

Sophie-Rose: I loved doing the crazy frog dance.

Jack: I enjoyed pretending to be a caterpillar.

Kayden: I felt excited!

P6 Blog

P6 were responsible citizens this afternoon and set out to contribute to the care and maintenance of our school by litter picking around the school grounds. This links to our work on investigating the local area, as we are looking at the care and maintenance of Pumpherston and Uphall Station. We will be carrying out a research walk around Pumpherston next week to assess care and maintenance as well as other factors such as public transport and housing.

P 2 / 3 Weekly Blog

Last week we enjoyed lots of talks from parents who came in to tell us about their jobs. We met Mr Mellor who talked to us about being a Head Chef, Mr Fish told us all about being a fire fighter, Sarah Jane told us all about being an archeologist. We also had a talk from Kelly who is a hairdresser. We learned lots of things about the world of work and it has given us some ideas

about what we would like to do when we are older.

This week we have been making the most of the good weather by taking our learning outdoors. We practised giving and following directions in French by playing games outside and made links to maths by using compass points.

We also had lots of fun speaking to our visitors for DYW week. We got to meet a nurse, a head chef, a brick layer, a motorbike builder, a marketing student, a music instructor and an Autism support worker.

Primary 5

This week, Primary 5 made some explosive discoveries!

In teams, we had made model volcanoes with Miss Mulholland. Next, we had to put on our Science hats and do some investigating – which combinations of materials (such as Mentos, cola, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid) would create the most explosive chemical reaction?

We worked in teams to test different combinations and then fed back to the rest of the class. It seemed the most effective combination was vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. So, we prepared our volcanoes for the imminent explosions and added a touch of food colouring to make the liquid more ‘lava like’. Here are some of our explosions below.

We are looking forward to seeing what our next mini-project with Miss Mulholland will be!

Until next time…

P6 Gardening

Today we spent a lovely sunny afternoon out in the school garden with Sarah-Jane. She taught us about the different vegetable families, including which parts of the plant we eat, what different seeds need to grow and how gardeners plant them. We then had the chance to get our hands dirty (some dirtier than others!) by helping out with jobs in the garden. We planted potatoes, sweetcorn, pumpkins, kale, onions, garlic, leeks, brussel sprouts and sunflowers. Thank you Sarah-Jane, it was great fun!
