All of the boys and girls are settling in well to Primary one. Here are some photos showing how busy they’ve been!
Pumpherston and Uphall Station CPS Blog
A place for news, information and sharing learning from PUSCPS
Within Maths and Numeracy this week, have been learning to match numerals to number words. We have also been exploring fractions by finding halves of shapes and quantities.
Last week, we learnt facts about the Queen. We also created line drawings of her and crowns to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
This week, Primary 3 continued their ‘Visit Paris!’ topic. So far, we have created our own tour company called ‘Bonjour, Paris!’, learned about the role of a tour guide and talked about travelling issues such as passports and security.
Next, we had to start planning our tour by researching famous Parisian landmarks. We worked in pairs to research landmarks, drew pictures and listed facts about them. #successfullearners
Have a look at some of our work below:
Our next job is to use the information found to plan a tour for our customers.
Check in next time to see what else we have been learning!
Primary 3 & Miss M 🙂
This week we have been putting the finishing touches towards our assembly – which will be next Wednesday 15th June 2022. We will be sharing our knowledge from our topic this term, Democracy and the Scottish Government.
In PE this week, we have been preparing for sports day alongside competing in our own mini ‘Wimbledon’ tournament. We were able to bring together all of our skills from the past 5 weeks and worked well as part of a team to compete against our classmates.
We added the finishing touches to our Queen’s Jubilee artwork. We hope you like them!
This week the children have been writing an explanation to include a title, identifying statement, explanation sequence and summary statement. They have also included time and sequence words and present tense verbs.
Today they have been demonstrating their ability to use a range of strategies to complete numeracy questions in a Big Maths Click Challenge.
This week, we have had lots of new books delivered for our class library. The children were so excited and have really enjoyed choosing and reading new books.
This week, Primary 3 were getting to know their bodies!
First, we learned that even though we are all different, there are some characteristics that we share (e.g. shoe size, hair colour, eye colour, height).
Then, we worked in teams to create body shapes on giant pieces of card and were challenged to write down all of the body parts that we knew. Miss McLaughlin was so impressed – we had labels for ‘spinal cord’, ‘bladder’ and ‘veins’! On looking at our diagrams, we noticed that for some of our more ‘private parts’, we had been using different vocabulary. We learned the correct terminology for these parts and annotated our diagrams. #responsiblecitizens
Below, you can see our team diagrams.
Check in with us next week to see what we have been up to!
Primary 3 & Miss M 🙂
The last 2 weeks we have had visits from Zoe Gordon in school who shared her knowledge of French with us. We have been learning greetings, colours, numbers and animals.
We have been researching how to keep our teeth healthy and shared our knowledge with the dentist when we had our dental checks in school. We also designed posters to encourage others to look after their teeth.
We are busy learning sounds from our new phonics block and have been consolidating our learning making words from playdoh, using ict games, board games and building words with our sounds on the magnetic boards.
On Monday, our Painted Lady butterflies emerged from their chrysalises. We fed them pieces of orange and sugar water. After a few days they were strong enough to fly away so we released them outside. Some of us held out our arms in the hope they might land on us and linger in the playground but they flew straight up into the sky!
We have really enjoyed seeing the butterfly life cycle in our class and learning about it in more depth. This morning we drew pictures and wrote about where we thought they might have gone. Some of us imagined that they will see a rainbow, fly to another country or find a lovely park somewhere.
