P4 Digital Learning

As part of Digital Learning Week P4 have been learning to create bar charts using Excel from data gathered about types of housing.  This linked to our Interdisciplinary Learning Topic on our local environment through maths and technology.  The children have explored different ways to record data, they have carried out surveys and then used the data to create the bar charts using Excel.

Parent/ Carer Questionnaire

Thank you to everyone who has already responded.
We continually gather the views from our parent/ carers and other partners in a range of ways. We have developed this questionnaire to enable us to seek feedback on specific areas of the life, ethos and culture of our school. We will use the feedback from this questionnaire, the West Lothian Council Ethos Survey and other feedback we have, to celebrate our positives and continue on our improvement journey.
Thank you for taking time to complete this questionnaire.

Sharing Our Digital Learning

As part of Digital Learning Week we invited our families to join us for some digital learning. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined us.

P2 taught their families how to use the green screen.

Basketball Team Success!

A big well done to our basketball team in making it to the West Lothian Wolves playoffs on Friday. This is a huge achievement for our newly formed team!

Thank you to Mrs Hamilton who has passionately coached the basketball team and inspired the team to persevere, and to Mrs Ross for supporting the team on Friday.

Primary 3

What were we learning?

To learn how to use an algorithm.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would be able to follow an algorithm set by Miss McLaughlin.
  • We would be able to ‘de-bug’ an algorithm that didn’t quite work.
  • We would be able to write algorithms of our own for a partner to try.

What did we do?

  • We followed Miss McLaughlin’s algorithm for drawing a monster but unfortunately, our monsters did not match hers!
  • We talked about why this might be – her algorithm wasn’t detailed enough! We fixed it together by adding key words like ‘short’ and ‘tiny’.
  • We then tried writing algorithms for our own monsters and gave them to different partners for them to try. We talked about what we might need to ‘de-bug’ for next time.

Primary 3 also have been issued Listening & Talking homework – a letter went home in your child’s bag on Friday. Information is also below – if there are any issues/questions, please let Miss McLaughlin know!

Until next time…

Primary 6 Digital Learning Week

As part of Digital Learning Week, P6 have been developing their coding skills using a coding website called Scratch. We wrote code for multiple ‘sprites’ to create an animation for Digital Learning Week. Using code, we were able to make the sprites change position, colour, size and shape as well as make sounds and add speech bubbles.

You can view examples of our coding work below.

On Wednesday we had a visit from a DevOps Engineer at CloudReach. He told us about his job, the skills he uses in his work and possible routes into a job such as his. Many of us were inspired to think about computer engineering as a possible future career.

Yesterday, we enjoyed sharing what we had learned on Scratch with our parents. We also planned our slideshows to present our learning within Science on the water cycle in a digital form.

Primary 2 Digital Learning Week

This week as part of our digital learning, primary 2 took part in Scottish Book Trust’s “Author’s live.” The Author, Emily Mackenzie read her story, “There’s broccoli in my ice-cream” to us on a live feed from Edinburgh, then showed us, step by step how to draw a character from her book. It was great fun!

We also had a chance this week to experience using the green screen app. We listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, made masks of the characters and then had the opportunity to recreate scenes from the story with a green screen background.

Primary 1 Digital Learning Week

Primary 1 had great fun this week preparing for Digital Learning Week.  We first decided which sea creature we were going to make and then used either paint or felt pens to create them.  When everything was ready we photographed our pictures using ‘Chatterpix’ and then brought them to life using the animation tool.

Nursery Digital week and Pop in and Play

This week at nursery it has been Digital Week

“I was seeing what everyone was doing. I like using the computer and the iPad” Lucy.

During digital week the children have been taking turns to use the iPad to record their learning. The children have had fun using the  iPad’s, the laptop, Smartboard and the light board.

Pop in and Play

It was lovely again to share our learning with our friends and family this week. We have had mum and dads, Grans and sister and brothers come into our nursery to visit us this week.

We even had 2 new children join the nursery for our story about Kipper
