Maths Week Scotland Sumdog Contest

P1-7 can take part in the Maths Week Scotland Sumdog Competition, at school and at home. The competition starts on Friday 27th September and runs until 3rd October.

A huge thank you to Parent Partners fundraising, which has supported the renewal of our Sumdog subscription.

Good Luck!

Parental Portal Request

The letter below  was issued to all parents in June through groupcall from West Lothian Council. Unfortunately 15% of school families and no nursery families have used this service.

It is important that ALL our families sign up to use this service for a number of reasons:

  • It the expectation from West Lothian Council that all families use this service unless you have no access to the internet.
  • You will complete the annual data check process electronically.
  • You can update your own as well as your child’s details at any time.
  • EE2 forms will be completed on this portal.

This will also improve communication between home and school, use less paper and protect our admin staff’s time (due to a reduction in hours).

The annual data check will be issued from West Council through Parent Portal next week.  We therefore request that you sign up as soon as possible, as it is essential that we have up to date information about your child and their emergency contact details.

We appreciate your support with this, and if you do have any issues or concerns please contact the school office on 01506 280995 or wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk

Dear Parent/GuardianIn support of West Lothian Council’s ambition to transform communications between parents/carers we have been working with national partners to develop a “Parents Portal”.

The portal is designed to replace the ‘schoolbag run’, giving parents online access to a range of school-related services. At the heart of the system is a secure online account through mygov.scot which is referred to as a ‘My Account’, and this is already used in all West Lothian schools to enable parents to make online payments.

Initially, this new service will introduce basic information about your child’s school and will allow you to:-

  • link to your child
  • view school calendar
  • view your child’s class timetable (for pupils in secondary school)
  • view your child’s attendance
  • complete the annual data check process electronically
  • update your own as well as your child’s details at any time
  • access Parent Zone and MyWestLothian
  • access online school payments (iPayImpact)

As the product develops we look forward to seeing more services introduced including electronic permission slips and consent forms.

This is an exciting first phase of a new initiative which enables and creates a digital relationship between parents, pupils and schools.

For further information, guidance and access to parentsportal.scot, please click on the link below:-

parentsportal.scot

On signing up to the portal, you will be able to link to your child and gain access to the above named services which are currently available. Please note this service is only available to Primary and Secondary children. In order to link to your child the data you provide during the sign up process must match the most up-to-date data that your child’s school holds.

We hope that parentsportal.scot and its services will become an integral part of you and your child’s school experience.

Yours sincerely

James Cameron

1 Plus 2 Languages Support

At Pumpherston and Uphall Station CPS, one of the priorities on our School Improvement Plan this session is the 1 Plus 2 modern languages agenda.

Children are taught French from Nursery to Primary 7. This year we want to extend this by introducing another language or culture in an informal way. Our Parent Partners thought that some families within our school and community could support us! If you can help us, for example a workshop with a class, a club or ongoing support, please fill out the form below.

Thanks in advance.

  • It’s the second year so I knew about the routine but I’m pleased how nursery encourages independence from the start and helps the children and parents. Very approachable staff and knowledgeable.

What other information would you like us to provide during Visit My Class sessions?

You asked? We answered
A little personalisation about your child. There will be opportunities for this at parents night and Families Learning Together and Sharing the Learning Events.
Do they have school photographs taken to buy? Yes, Tempest Photography do this once a year. Look out for the date.
Positive reinforcement examples. Have a look at our Positive Relationships at PUSCPS.
School Trips and how we can help. Collect a PVG form from the office. Once this is complete we can add you to our list of parent helpers.
How do we teach Maths? Have a look at our Maths & Numeracy section on the blog.

In what other ways can we support you to support your child at home?

You suggested? We answered
I would like to know what topics they cover in advance. Have a look at our termly learning overviews.
Lots of questions about homework. This was discussed at the Parent Partner Meeting and a new approach will be tried out in Term 2.

Thank you to the house and vice captains who came along to support the event.

Online Booking System for Parent Consultations

Like most other schools, this year we are moving to an online booking system for parent appointments, this is for a number of reasons, including a reduction of hours in our school office. On this system you can book an appointment for your nursery and/or primary school child/children. If Mrs Dugan, our support for learning teacher works with your child you can also make an appointment to see her.

Our school parent appointments are on Wednesday 2ndOctober 5:20-8:00pm and Thursday 3rd October 4:00-6:30pm. Our nursery parent appointments are on Wednesday 2nd October 6:30-8:30pm and Thursday 3rd October 6:30-8:30pm, depending on the group your child is in.

This system can only send invitations to the main contact for the child which has been recorded on SEEMIS and we request that they make the appointment.

To make your appointments please go to: https://parents-booking.co.uk/pumpherston

Please note: You need to type this address into your website browser’s ‘web address bar’.
Try not to ‘Google’ search the website address, it will not be searchable that way.

Login by entering the requested information, and then use the Booking Wizard to make your appointments.

You will need to enter:

Your title (Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms) and surname
Your child’s first name, surname and date of birth

Please note: The login details you enter must match those we have on record for you. If you have not alerted the school to any relevant name changes, we will be expecting you to login with the details you gave us originally.

The booking system will allow you to make bookings from 12th September 2019 at 6.00pm and will close for bookings on 25th September at 6pm.

Once you have logged in, we suggest you use the ‘Booking Wizard’ to make your appointments, although a manual booking option (one booking at a time, one child at a time) also exists.

Troubleshooting Tips:

If you cannot login and have tried all the combinations you think we have on file, please contact the school office using the e-mail address at the top of the login page.
The email address you can enter is only used to receive a confirmation of your appointment. It will not be used as a login ‘check’. Your e-mail address is never the reason you cannot login.
If you have several children to make bookings for, and decide not to use the Booking Wizard, you can make appointments one-by-one using the ‘manual booking’ method. Use the ‘Change Child’ button on the blue bar (above the school’s name, at the top of the web page) to swap between your children.

If you are unable to book at home, please contact the school office for help.

September Holiday

A gentle reminder that the September holiday is this weekend.
The school is closed to Primary 1-7 children on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th September.
The nursery is closed to children on Monday 16th September and opened to children on Tuesday 17th September.
Have a lovely weekend.
