West Lothian Gardening Awards Success!

Sarah-Jane and Miss Burton attended the West Lothian Council Gardening Awards on Friday 25th October. Our school received two awards:

  • Best Container Gardern
  • Best Decorative Garden

We received the beautiful plaque below and a gift voucher.

These awards for a fantastic recognition for all the work Sarah-Jane and our Gardening Club have done in the past year.

Home Learning Choice Boards

At a recent parent partner meeting we discussed our current approaches to homework and the impact homework has on achievement and attainment. Following this we have decided to trial issuing a home learning choice board each term. The choice board is attached and a copy is in your child’s homework book. Their reading homework will sit alongside this and will be in your child’s reading record/ homework diary. We home you find this useful and will ask for feedback in term 4.

Term 1 Celebration Assembly

On Friday we had our end of term Celebration Assembly.

We acknowledged our Awesome Authors, those children who have made excellent progress or achievements within writing.

We also recognised our STEM Superstars, those children who have made excellent progress or achievements within Science, Technologies or Maths.

We recognised our P6 and 7 children who helped out at our recent parent consultations.

We found out that our school has received the Silver Sports Scotland Award. A huge congratulations to our Sports Stars and Mrs McConville.

Our House and Vice Captains set a Maths Weeks Scotland Poster Challenge, and the winners received a prize!

We took part in the National Maths Week Sumdog Competition. Some of children completed all 1000 questions! Primary 3 scored the highest for the school, and Tyler came 207th out of almost 75000 pupils.

Thank you to our Sumdog reps who reminded up about the competition!

We watched a video that showed us all about our learning during Maths Week Scotland.

Congratulations to Calder for winning the house points this term.

Values Refresh

At our parent consultations, please visit the hall where we would like families to contribute to our Values Refresh! Have a look and reflect on:

  • What are our core values?
  • What do we want our children/ school community to be like?
  • What values are central to our school?

We will collect your ideas at the parent consultations this week. If you would like to offer some further suggests, please add them as a comment to this blog post.

Families Learning Together

There was a real buzz in the hall today as we had our first Families Learning Together session of this school year. Children had to the opportunity to share their progress in their jotters and their targets. This will also support conversations at our  Parent Appointments next week. Thank you to everyone who joined us and our P7 Young Leaders who ran the event.

Our Digital Directors and IDL experts demonstrated to parents and carers how to use these apps.

Parent Portal

The letter below was issued to all parents in June through groupcall from West Lothian Council and again on Friday 20th September. Our update has risen from 15% of school families to now 21% of families using the service. Unfortunately, the service is no available to nursery families. Out of the 21% of families there is only 1.5% who have updated their annual data check.

It is important that ALL our families sign up to use this service for a number of reasons:

  • It the expectation from West Lothian Council that all families use this service unless you have no access to the internet.
  • You will complete the annual data check process electronically.
  • You can update your own as well as your child’s details at any time.
  • EE2 forms will be completed on this portal.

This will also improve communication between home and school, use less paper and protect our admin staff’s time (due to a reduction in hours).

The annual data check will be issued from West Council through Parent Portal and not in paper form.  We therefore request that you sign up as soon as possible, as it is essential that we have up to date information about your child and their emergency contact details. It is the responsibility of you as the parent/ carer to complete this action.

We appreciate your support with this and we recognise that there has been some teething problem, but if you do have any issues or concerns please contact the school office on 01506 280995 or wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In support of West Lothian Council’s ambition to transform communications between parents/carers we have been working with national partners to develop a “Parents Portal”.

The portal is designed to replace the ‘schoolbag run’, giving parents online access to a range of school-related services. At the heart of the system is a secure online account through mygov.scot which is referred to as a ‘My Account’, and this is already used in all West Lothian schools to enable parents to make online payments.

Initially, this new service will introduce basic information about your child’s school and will allow you to:-

  • link to your child
  • view school calendar
  • view your child’s class timetable (for pupils in secondary school)
  • view your child’s attendance
  • complete the annual data check process electronically
  • update your own as well as your child’s details at any time
  • access Parent Zone and MyWestLothian
  • access online school payments (iPayImpact)

As the product develops we look forward to seeing more services introduced including electronic permission slips and consent forms.

This is an exciting first phase of a new initiative which enables and creates a digital relationship between parents, pupils and schools.

For further information, guidance and access to parentsportal.scot, please click on the link below:-

parentsportal.scot

On signing up to the portal, you will be able to link to your child and gain access to the above named services which are currently available. Please note this service is only available to Primary and Secondary children. In order to link to your child the data you provide during the sign up process must match the most up-to-date data that your child’s school holds.

We hope that parentsportal.scot and its services will become an integral part of you and your child’s school experience.

Yours sincerely

James Cameron
