P7 Responsible Roles

Primary 7 were super excited to find out their new Responsible Roles today! Although the roles may look a bit different this year, they still have an important leadership role to play in our school.

During school closures they completed an online form job application to apply for the role they would like to be considered for, stating the reasons why.

Their Responsible Roles in the playground  are:

  • Magical Mediators

  • Playful Pals

  • Safe Security

The children will start their rota on Monday supporting P1 and 2. We will establish new job descriptions to keep everyone safe and keep to our class bubbles.

Magical Mediators Trip

Our P7 Magical Mediators took part in a special training event at Tynecastle in Edinburgh on Thursday.  Schools from across Scotland came

together to enjoy a circus themed day and to brush up on their mediation skills.  Mrs Ross and Mrs Bonner said our P7s were a credit to our school.

House Captain Election 2019-20

Primary 7 were given the opportunity to run for House and Vice Captains. They were set the following challenge and the children who did not want to apply, supported their Pumpie Pals peers.

On Friday we had the election and it was very competitive as the presentations were excellent. It was obvious that all the children but a lot of time, effort and thought into what they wanted to say.

A huge well done to everyone who took part!

P6 Peer Mediation Training

On Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th June Primary 6 took part in  Peer Mediation training.  Sarah and Amanda came from Scottish Mediation and led us in our learning of the mediation process.  The days began with some simple games which were enjoyed by all and then we began to break down and role play mediation situations.

We learned that we were the mediators and the people who came to mediation were disputants.  There were rules for the mediators and for the disputants to help the process run smoothly.  Primary 6 developed their questioning skills and their ability to help the disputants to come to a resolution, most of the time.  They also learnt that sometimes they may not be able to help the disputants to resolve the situation and that is OK too.  One important rule was that mediators are not allowed to offer a solution,  everyone agreed that this is very difficult sometimes.

Primary 6 enjoyed developing their mediation skills and were able to demonstrate this through their role play.

Responsible Roles – First Aid Training

Today Primary 6 received some First Aid training to support them with their new Responsible Roles in August. The training developed their awareness of First Aid issues in the playground and in real life. They now are more informed about the role of the PSW First Aiders in the playground.

Thank you to Stefan from Albacare who worked with our P6 pupils.

Peer Mediation Training

This week our Primary 6s went through Peer Mediation training with Amanda and Sarah from Scottish Mediation. They went through a range of activities exploring what mediation means and the processes that are involved in peer mediation.

Sarah and Amanda said:

”We had such a great time with the group of pupils, who were really focused on the task and a pleasure to work with …  you will have a great team of magic mediators. Both Amanda and I would like to thank yourself and your staff for helping us and making us fell very welcome over the two days.  Your school is a delight to work with.”

Some of P6 children will be Magical Mediators in the playground next session as part of our Responsible Roles programme.

Congratulations to Primary 6!

P6 Peer Mediation Training

This morning we welcomed Amanda and Sarah from Scottish Mediation to train all our Primary 6 pupils on how to use Peer Mediation. Although specific Primary 6 children have been selected to be a Magical Mediator next session, we recognised that these are imported life skills and invited all our P6 children to attend the training.
