Term 3 Celebration Assembly

Today we had our first Celebration Assembly to celebrate all our achievements during Term 3.

We had our first Dojo Top Scorers for each of our houses – they received a £10 gift voucher for WH Smith.

Each teacher nominated a child in their class for the Remarkable Reader Award for making progress in their reading.

They also  nominated a child in their class for the STEM Superstar Award for making progress in Science, Technologies, Engineering and Maths.

We gave out Sumdog Awards for the Top 5 in Reading and Maths during our Snow Days.

P7 Young Leaders who took part in the Families Reading Together session received a Head Teacher Award.

The children who took part in the West Lothian Burns festival received a Head Teacher Award.

Miai and Jessica told us about representing our cluster on a trip to London.

Almond won the house points for this term.

Well done to everyone who received an award, and thank you to the families who joined us.

P4 Junk Modelling

The third snow day in a row… WOW! I hope you are all enjoying the snow and have been doing some very exciting activities. I have seen a few people on the school Twitter account already!

Since the bins are not being collected due to the snow, I thought we should take this opportunity to ask parents for their help!

Primary 4 are beginning to look at their local area and all the different parts of it, including housing, leisure, jobs and the school.

We would be very grateful if you could help us by collecting any junk modelling materials (cardboard boxes, kitchen roll tubes, etc) for us to make model houses and parks. Please ensure the junk is clean however.

Thank you for your support and thank you in advance for any pieces of junk you can send our way!

Primary 2 Safer Internet Week

Learning intention – To learn more about how to be safe on the internet.

Description of learning activities – We talked about what we would do if we felt unsafe or uncomfortable online. We watched a clip from the Safer Internet website about what to do if we felt stressed or worried about using technology. We learned how to log in on school netbooks with a password and how to open and close apps. We learned what some of the apps on the netbooks were and began using the keyboard to type our names.

Assessment – I can begin to use school technologies safely and appropriately.

I understand why it is important to behave responsibly online.

I can talk about how to stay safe online.

Learning at home – We could go home and practise using apps, opening and closing them. We need to be careful at home in case we feel uncomfortable online and know to tell a grown-up if we are worried. We will be careful about which apps we will use at home and close any videos that are inappropriate. We know not to add or follow anyone we don’t know and not to give details out.

Internet Safety Day Pledges

Learning Intention:

We are learning to keep ourselves safe online.

Success Criteria:

I can make a pledge which will help me be safe online.

I can explain why my pledge will help keep me safe online.

In the lead up to Internet Safety Day 2018 Primary 4 have been looking at the ways in which we use the internet. They were able to come up with lots of things they use the internet, for at home and in the classroom.

We then discussed why we must be careful online and the dangers that are out there. This allowed us to then think of ways we can keep ourselves safe when we are using the internet. We came up with lots of suggestions as a class and then chose one each to make our pledge with. Our pledges will be completed and made into a classroom  display for us all to remember and make use of.

Festive Homework Final Products

A big well done to everyone who took part in the festive home learning task, the results are amazing! It is fantastic to see the efforts families have went to to complete the task.

I have really enjoyed speaking to the children about how they made their designs and what they used. We will share the results at the Sing-a-long tomorrow.

Festive Home Learning: Part 1

On Friday I visited P1S, P4 and P5 and children shared with me their table decorations. They described what they used and explained how they made them. A big thank you to all who took part, they look fantastic! I look forward to visiting more classes this week.
