Primary 6

This week in Science, Primary 6 have been learning all about energy. We discovered that energy can take different forms like chemical, light or heat and can transfer from one object to another. We worked together to match objects and actions to the type of energy they hold or produce.

In Maths, we have been applying our numeracy skills to complete word problems. We have been looking at two-step problems, where we need to complete two different calculations in order to find the answer.

We are looking forward to our class trip on Wednesday to the Water of Leith Centre to discover more about the Jacobites!

Harvesting at Nursery

We have been harvesting our vegetables from the nursery garden over the last 2 weeks. We have used our carrots, tomatoes,  squash and onions to make healthy pizzas and we ate them for snack.  Some of us made our own pizzas at the craft table and we put them on the wall. They look just like real pizzas!!

We have shown an interest in minibeasts and in the garden we found some worms,  snails, earwigs,  woodlouse and a spider. We have drawn lots of pictures of the minibeasts for our display.

We also had a visit from our parents when we showed them all the things we enjoy doing in the nursery at our first Pop In And Play session.

LI: Body systems

SC: I can…. name the parts of the respiratory system

I can…. describe how the respiratory system works

This week we started our science topic. We are looking at some of the body systems. The first one we were looking at is the respiratory system. We have been learning the names of all of the parts of the respiratory system and what happens when we breathe in and breathe out.

Can you find the parts of the body which make up the respiratory system? Can you name them?

P1 Explorers

P1 have been working with their new talking partners to explore the school playground. We went on a hunt for living things and found lots of bugs to examine and talk about. We were very gentle and put everything back after a good look.

Primary 4 Health Week – Day 2!

We have been very busy once again for Day 2 of Health Week!

We began our morning by discussing our Emotion Works cogs and identifying which cog the words or phrases on the board came under; emotions, behaviours, body sensations, triggers or regulation strategies. This made way for a lot of discussion and we all had to justify our answers and agree as a class. We decided that some of them even came under 2 different categories depending on the feelings that you had towards them.

We then finished our PE from yesterday out in the sunshine. It was very hard work once we got to the final station!

We are trying to have healthy snacks this week so we are taking a daily picture of our healthy eaters! We had 5 yesterday and today we had 9! Well done guys!

After break we had a brilliant surprise in the hall, where we were looking at our bodies with the Glasgow Science Centre. There were lots of different stations teaching us so many different things from our organs, heat in our bodies and our memory:

to the effects that smoking and drinking have on our faces and our lungs!

It was a brilliant, active and interesting workshop which we all loved!

Then after lunch we had a visit from Active Schools and we did lots of athletics outside. We tried lots of different activities and were definitely tired out when we got back in the classroom!

I cannot wait to see what we get up to tomorrow for Day 3!

P7 DYW Week

During DYW week pupils had many opportunities to learn about a variety of occupations that may encourage and inspire them to consider these professions in the future.  Pupils learned about motorbikes, aquaculture, midwifery, engineering, hairdressing, STEM activities and applied science.  Pupils particularly enjoyed the applied science activities.

Electric Fruit and Veg
Magic Egg
Flame Change
Pupils with their certificates.
