Now that we are back to internet connection, I can post some more of the photos from camp. Here are some from archery, shelter-building, fire-lighting, aerial activities, and problem-solving. More to come soon! I hope all the children enjoyed the experience – the staff were all very proud of them! They represented our school brilliantly. I hope they enjoy some well-earned rest this weekend. Mrs Dickie
Primary 1 have green fingers!
We are Learning about the different parts of a plant and what they need
Primary 1 have been busy this week learning about the different parts of a plant and what they need to grow. We planted our own beans and are looking forward to watching them grow.
We know what a plant needs to grow:
Eva: They need sun to grow
Kenzie: They need water
Maisie: They need to be in soil
Harrison: When the flowers get bigger we need to move them into a bigger pot.
Emotion Works with P6
LI: To develop the skills to manage our emotions
SC:
I can … describe what an emotional trigger is
I can… describe the effect of an emotional trigger
I can… use emotional vocabulary
I can…. draw in detail
The children took part in a class discussion about the effect an emotional trigger had on their mood, describing how their mood changed after the emotional trigger. We looked specifically at emotional triggers which changed our moods from happiness to sad / angry. First we made a word bank of the
appropriate emotional vocabulary. The children created a picture to show their mood before the emotional trigger, then describe the emotional trigger and finally showed the change in their emotions after the emotional trigger. Once the drawing was complete the children had to use at least 5 examples of emotional vocabulary for each emotion. Some children presented their pictures to the class and discussed their change in emotions.

Calder Pyjama Party!
As Calder received the most Dojos last term, they requested a pyjama party. Jessica and Katie organised a range of games, pyjama corners, pass the pillow, stuff the pillow and bed sheet parachute games. We also had lots of nice treats for snacks. Thank you to all the Primary 7 Young Leaders who helped to organised the party.
Happiness!
This morning at assembly we launched Emotion Works by looking at the emotion of happiness!
We first of all watched a clip about ‘joy’ from Inside Out.
Primary 6 helped us to understand different words for happiness.
Then we looked at how we feel and what triggers us to feel happiness.

We then watched a video that showed how we show happiness at PUSCPS, we also discussed how music and other people smiling can make us feel happy and smile. M

PEF Interventions: Early Engagement
We used some of our PEF Funding to fund an Early Engagement teacher. Mrs Dickie was recently invited along to the West Lothian PEF Conference to share the impact of this role with colleagues across West Lothian.
You can find the presentation below.
