Creative Music Making in P6 and P7

Olly and Owen joined Primary 6 and 7 for their first out of three Creative Music Sessions. These sessions introduce children to live, orchestral music, today’s session focussed on Samba. They learnt about the rhythms and instruments of Brazil whilst developing their team work and listening skills.

Learning about Harvest

Primary 1 have been learning about autumn time and harvest.  Today we were talking and learning about Harvest in particular.  We watched a power point and discussed how vegetables and fruit are harvested – from under the ground, above the ground and from trees/plants. Afterwards we unwrapped a range of vegetables and had the opportunity to use our senses to investigate.  Tomorrow we will be able to look even closer at our vegetables using magnifying glasses and peeling the layers off  to explore inside.

Club Wild: Autumn – Fruity Foraging!

Over the last few weeks at  Club Wild we have been making the most of the bumper crop of autumn fruits. Thanks bees and the warm start to summer 🐝

We climbed the hill at the back of the school to find the orchard trees laden with plums🍑 and apples🍏.  Some of the trees were so heavy with fruit that their branches reached the ground.  Brambles 🍇 from the hedgerows around the park added to our bounty.

First we made crumble. One with apples and brambles, the other with plums. We rubbed the butter into the flour with the tips of our fingers and covered the prepared fruit with the sweet breadcrumb mixture.  The bramble and apple was definitely the favourite with the plum crumble a wee bit tart.

This week we used the rest of our fruit to make jam.  The plum jam is an amazing pink colour and the apple and bramble a deep purple. We learned how different fruits and different accounts of pectin, the stuff that makes the jam thicken.

Library After School Club – 13/09/18

Last week at Library Club we  looked at The World Around Us.

Moira read ‘Is a Blue Whale the biggest thing there is? by Robert E. Wells. It is a great book which showed how big things to us, like the largest animal in the world, the blue whale, are small compared to much bigger things, like mountains and stars and even the universe!

 

Did you know that a if you were to hollow out Mount Everest, the biggest mountain on our planet, you could fill it with billions of blue whales.

 

We then made owl light switch covers that will help us to remember to switch off our lights and think of what we can do to help this amazing world around us!

 

This week in library club we are exploring sharing. Come along to share a story.

Primary 1 – Maths Week Scotland

Last week we were very busy  exploring different areas of maths. We explored money, tally marks and number.  On our village walk, we took tally marks to show how many vehicles we could spot. We have been playing with real coins in our class hairdressers and playing lots of different number games with partners.
