Today the AM nursery children investigated the frosty weather outside. They made snow angels in the frost and used snow shovels to collect the frost lying on the playground. Some of the children were interested in the ice and we talked about how the ice had formed.

Deputy First Minister’s Maths Challenge: P6
This week Primary 6 will receive the Deputy First Minister’s Maths Challenge.
All Primary 6 pupils across Scotland have been issued with the Deputy First Minister’s Maths Challenge. This is to provide some Christmas holiday maths family fun.
When you do complete one of the activities we would like you to share your answers with us on Twitter. To do this you need to create a Twitter account, take a photo of the completed activity and tweet it to us by typing @PUSCPS.
The solutions and workings will be published at https://blogs.gov.scot/making-maths-count on 4th January.
Good luck!
RSPB Visit
Primary 4 were very lucky to be the first class to welcome our visitors from the RSPB to our school.
We had lots of discussion about habitats and what we can do to help animals who want to live (or do live) in our school grounds.
We went on a walk around the school to look out for habitats which we have and we got to keep record of how many we have and how many points we scored.
Our school got 119 points and we were only missing 2 habitats! We were very proud of our score and really enjoyed being out to explore our school, even if it was very chilly!
Here are some photos of us all having fun:
Tinsel Tree
Peppy our elf has been moving around our classroom a lot this week. We have found him hanging from the star, in our house points jar, in our Monday folder and hanging from the door. We were all very excited and we are happy to have him in our classroom.
This week we have also begun to learn a French song. It is called ‘Vive le Vent’ which is the French version of Jingle Bells! We worked out that it actually means ‘long live the wind’.
Jessica – “We were playing moneys with Mrs Struthers. We had to roll two dice and we were given amounts of money. The aim of the game was to collect more money than others”
Darcy – “We worked with Mrs Struthers to complete a maths workbook page. We did really well!”
Primary 4 also were given 12 drummers drumming and 4 calling birds to make for the hall decorations. We used paint and collage materials to create them and they look wonderful.
Festive Home Learning: Part 1
On Friday I visited P1S, P4 and P5 and children shared with me their table decorations. They described what they used and explained how they made them. A big thank you to all who took part, they look fantastic! I look forward to visiting more classes this week.
RSPB Visit Primary 1
P1 enjoyed their ‘Giving Nature a Home’ session with the RSPB this afternoon. They were outside, working in teams to find lots of habitats for animals. The RSPB leaders were very impressed with great ideas and fantastic manners. Well done!

Primary 2 Read, Write, Count
This week, Primary 2 received their Read, Write, Count bags!
We were very lucky to have Primary 6 come down to our classroom and explore our bags with us. We had two fantastic story books, some finger puppets, a notebook and a game of Snakes and Ladders!
Yesterday, some grown-ups came in to see our bags and try some of the suggested activities. Many thanks to those who came!
We hope you enjoy using your Read, Write, Count bags at home!
