What were we learning?

To learn and perform a Scots’ poem.

What did we do?

For Scots’ week, Primary 2 had to learn one of two poems (‘Dentist’ by JK Annand or ‘Mrs Yule’ by Ally Christie). Miss McLaughlin gave us our poems for homework and we practised them with our grown-ups (thank you for taking the time).

What were our steps to success?

  • We had to look at our audience, or straight ahead.
  • We had to use a clear voice and make sure we had good volume.
  • We also had to make sure we used a good speed.
  • We had to try to use expression when performing.
  • We had to be a quality audience too!

Well done to our poetry performers who wowed us at today’s Scots’ assembly. We are very proud of you!

 

Scots in Primary 1

We are learning to … perform a poem using good volume and eye contact.

I can … say the words clearly

I can … look at the audience

I can … stand still.

I can … use a volume of voice so people can hear me.

We are learning to … mix primary colours to create new ones and creat patterns with colour.

I can … choose colours to mix and describe what new colour I make

I can … experiment with a repeating colour pattern using art materials.

In talking & listening this week we have been trying hard to learn ‘Mince & Tatties’ and ‘Robin Reidbreist’.   Everyone had a go of reciting the poem they had chosen to the class.  Some people felt a little bit nervous and scared before they performed but afterwards felt proud!  Hannah, Christopher, Connor and Iona were chosen to perform at the Scots Assembly.

In art we learned to mix colours to make brown.  Floraidh remembered that we needed to mix red, yellow and blue.  We also designed new tartan kilts for Katie Morag.  Ruiraidh said we had to make a pattern using crayon lines.

We learned about a famous Scottish book character, Katie Morag.  We had to write a description about her.  We used descriptions like: curly, red hair / black boots / green kilt / rosy cheeks.  We tried hard to use our sounds to write lots of this by ourselves.

We self-assessed our work by explaining what was good about it.

Keep learning your sounds and blending at home everyone – you are becoming very good writers and readers!

P6: Famous Scots

We are learning to use the Internet to carry out research and we are learning how to create a poster. Our health and well being target is to develop our group working skills

Success criteria:

I can… have a bold title

I can… have interesting facts

I can…have eye catching pictures

I can… lay it out creatively

First we had to have a class discussion about what facts we wanted to find out about our famous Scots.  Then we worked in groups to use the Internet to carry out research to find the facts and record them. Then we organised the groups to make sure everyone had a role to create the poster making sure all of the success criteria were met. When they were finished we presented the posters to the class.

P5 Scottish inventors

We were learning to find information, make notes and use the notes to create a new text as well as learning about different Scottish inventors.

To show this we had to use the internet and books to research the inventors.  We made notes and organise them under suitable headings as well as using our notes to create posters in small groups.

We made colourful posters to show the rest of the class what we have learned – Amen

Internet Safety Day Pledges

Learning Intention:

We are learning to keep ourselves safe online.

 

Success Criteria:

I can make a pledge which will help me be safe online.

I can explain why my pledge will help keep me safe online.

 

In the lead up to Internet Safety Day 2018 Primary 4 have been looking at the ways in which we use the internet. They were able to come up with lots of things they use the internet, for at home and in the classroom.

We then discussed why we must be careful online and the dangers that are out there. This allowed us to then think of ways we can keep ourselves safe when we are using the internet. We came up with lots of suggestions as a class and then chose one each to make our pledge with. Our pledges will be completed and made into a classroom  display for us all to remember and make use of.

Survey for P1 parents/carers!

Further to our recent gifting event of Bookbug family bags in Primary 1, the Scottish Book Trust have asked if parents & carers of P1 children could take part in a short survey so that they can receive feedback on the bags. Scots Assembly

Letters went home today to let you know about our annual Scots Assembly, which takes place on Friday 26th January. This is a celebration of the role that grandparents and other older relatives and friends play in our children’s lives.  It is intended for older friends and relatives, who we would like to invite to come and join us.  Please return the tear-off slip from the letter by Monday 22nd January (limited to two tickets per family). Children will be auditioning in their classes during the course of this week and additional invites will be sent home for parents of those children selected to perform.
