Visit from Almond Engineering and DYW

On Friday Michelle Quinn from Almond Enginnering joined us for our Celebration Assembly. Michelle shared her own personal journey of working hard at school, and then working her way up in Almond Engineering to become the first female Director.

Lauren from Developing the Young Workforce in West Lothian also joined Michelle. Before our assembly, they visited P3 to find out about their ‘Digital Me’ business plans and they were very impressed.

Michelle sent us the letter below, to say thank you, as she really enjoyed visiting our school.

We would like to thank both ladies for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit us.

Sumdog Champs!

Congratulations to Primary 6 came 36th and P7 came 37th out of 91 schools in the West Lothian Sumdog Competition.

Also, a huge congratulations to Lucas who came 10th and Alice who came 30th out of 1862 pupils.

Primary 6

This week in Science, Primary 6 have been learning all about energy. We discovered that energy can take different forms like chemical, light or heat and can transfer from one object to another. We worked together to match objects and actions to the type of energy they hold or produce.

In Maths, we have been applying our numeracy skills to complete word problems. We have been looking at two-step problems, where we need to complete two different calculations in order to find the answer.

We are looking forward to our class trip on Wednesday to the Water of Leith Centre to discover more about the Jacobites!

P5 All about shapes!

This week we have been investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We are able to list the features of a variety of 2D and 3D shapes. We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to create patterns by tessalation. We used 3D shape nets to create 3D shapes.

Primary 1 – Maths

In maths, P1 are learning to copy, continue and create  patterns.

Each group used different materials to make their pattern.

They were very good at working as a small team to make different patterns. There was lots of discussion about how to make them.

Next time they will be trying to work out other groups patterns and continue them.

Playing with Shapes! -P2C

P2C have been playing with 2D shapes this week. We have been sorting the shapes by counting their corners and by counting how many sides there are.

We started with circles, squares, triangles and rectangles but now we can name rhombuses, pentagons, hexagons and octagons!

Using this learning we will move on to lines of symmetry.
