Glasgow Rocks Basketball Trip!

On Sunday 17th March, our Basketball Team and some other pupils from P6 and 7 joined Mrs Hamilton, Mrs Birrell and Miss Burton on a trip to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow to see Glasgow Rocks play against the Worcester Wolves.

There was great atmosphere at the game and we really enjoyed it. Our basketball team have picked up some tips for their next game too. A big thank you to the staff who came along on a Sunday so the trip could happen.

The Baby Chicks Visit to AM Nursery Class

We have been learning about how baby chicks hatch and grow. How boy chicks are yellow and girl chicks are brown. We looked at the information book to find out a baby chick has a egg- tooth that it uses to break out the eggshell. When the chicks are ready to hatch they start to make a cheeping sound and this lets the mother hen know they will soon hatch. We thought the chicks were “fluffy and cute”.

Club Wild – Houses complete and ready for families!

Now that Spring is here we have noticed that the birds are busy, ready to build nests for this year’s families. For the last few weeks Club Wild have been working on our bird boxes to give the birds a helping hand.
We talked about why its important to put up bird nesting boxes with fewer suitable trees, shrubs and buildings and more human landscaped areas.
We had two different types of bird boxes, one with a small hole for the little birds like sparrows, blue tits and great tits and one with a large open hole for birds like robins. In the wild robins would build open nests. The robin nest boxes needed to be placed between 1-2m above the ground while the small birds nest boxes between 2-4m. We chose a small area of mixed trees and made sure that our nest boxes were well hidden and not accessible to predators. They also needed to be placed facing a northerly direction to provide shelter from the prevailing wind.
After putting up the bird boxes we gave them an extra help by making some nesting bundles. Here we used dried grass, feathers, moss, wool and some pet fur tied up in branches so the birds could help themselves to nesting materials.
We hope that some families will move in and lay eggs so that we can watch and learn about our nesting birds.

We often hear from our families, what does learning look like at PUSCPS and what are the school’s priorities.

Come along and find out from staff and children in an informal way what we have been focusing on this year!

We will even provide you with a wee tea or coffee. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening.

Those parent/ carers with an IDL invite will also be able to attend a workshop on this evening.
