October signifies the start of Jewish new year celebrations. P6 have explored the tradition of blowing the Shofar horn to signify the start of Rosh Hashanah. They used a variety of art skills to make a shofar horn from paper.Â
P6 Classroom Learning Update
Today in class we have been learning about Hinduism. We explored the festival of Diwali to find out more about how Hindu’s celebrate, why they celebrate and create our very own Diva Lamps.
We will wait for them to dry overnight and then we will decorate them tomorrow.
Nalan was our expert today, showing us examples of real Diva Lamps alongside giving us tips on how to create our own.
P3 Weekly Update
This week we have been focusing on our nativity performance of ‘The Magical Christmas Journey’ where we have spent most of our week getting this ready for all parents and carers to attend next week. We are so excited for you all to come and see the performance next week!
In between our nativity practices, we have been learning more about our topic ‘The Rotten Romans’. We have been learning about what a day in the life of a Roman school child would be like as well as Roman numerals.
Below is a link to the song we have been using to help us:
P3 Weekly Update
This week in Primary 3 we have been busy working hard in all areas of our learning. We are excited for you to see our ‘Wonderful Week of Work’ jotters and bring them home and show off our work form this week.
We have created our craft for the Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December 2022.
We developed our knowledge of what makes a good friend and discussed the qualities that we look for in a good friend. We are looking for these everyday in the classroom, in the playground and at home and to show these qualities to others.
James from Broxburn United FC joined us this week for our 4th week of Fun Fitness Friday. We were learning what it means to be ‘physically active’.
Primary 3 Weekly Update
This week in Primary 3 we have been very busy.
Numeracy –Â We have been continuing to develop our knowledge of how to skip count in 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s up to and beyond 100. We have been looking for patterns when skip counting, using a 100 square to help us.
Literacy –Â Miss Walkingshaw modelled a lesson on how to create a narrative piece of writing. The story was called ‘The day where everything was backwards’. We loved helping her create this piece of writing and can’t wait to write our very own narrative stories next week.
Music –Â This week we have been practising our songs for the Nativity and learning about ‘pulse’ using our new resource – Charanga. We loved finding the pulse in different pieces of music and completed the GOLD level!
Our focus for next week is to work on our manners and being a kind friend.
Primary 5
P5 have been learning to understand why fruit and vegetables are good for our body. We have explored how they can be sorted into the colours of the rainbow with each colour having specific benefits to our bodies.  We learned that red fruits and vegetables can be good for our hearts and yellow provide vitamin C to help our immune system.  We have started some artwork to share our learning with you. Take a sneaky peek:
P6 Weekly Update
This week we have been learning about Scottish Culture during our mini topic. We were introduced to Robert Burns and explored many aspects of his life using digital technology. We were asked to note down all of our information in a creative way and share this with the class. This topic allowed us to explore capital cities in Scotland which tied into places that Robert Burns visited.
During our mini topic, we have been asked to investigate The Scottish Colourists. We have chosen one of the famous Scottish Colourists and completed a fact file all about them. We were then asked to re-create a famous piece of artwork by John Peploe called Pink Roses, Chinese Vase.
  Â
We have completed a pencil drawing and will finish this using John Peploes’ favourite technique of oil painting. We will post pictures of these when they have been completed next week for you.
Primary 1 Weekly Update
Primary 1 have been very busy this week rehearsing for our nativity, Whoops-A-Daisy Angel. We have been working hard to practise our singing and act out our parts together on the stage. We are really looking forward to our performance!
Primary 6 Update
This week we completed various activities relating to Remembrance Day.
The whole school took part in a one minute silence, which provided an opportunity to reflect and remember all those who fought for our country. To remember the soldiers who have died in the wars both past and present.
We were set a challenge to create a piece of artwork that would convey a message about this important day in history. We used pupil choice to select one of the following options, which focused on using a range of different art techniques:
- Pointillism Poppies
- Stained Glass Window Soldiers
- Flanders Field
