School Values Consultation: Last Chance!

As a school we recently consulted on what our community think our core values should be. Our core values are the fundamental beliefs of our school and are the guiding principles that dictate our behaviours.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. Please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire which will help us determine our school values.

The questionnaire will close on 17th March 2020.

Primary 3 STEM Topic Work

As part of our ‘Our Planet, Our Future’ topic, Primary 3 and been learning about the effects of litter and plastic pollution to the environment.

We have been researching how long it takes for materials to rot away after they are discarded and how our rubbish impacts on animals. Using the information found, we created posters and wrote an exposition to persuade people not to drop litter.

With have also linked our topic with our work on food chains, learning how animals depend on one another and discovering how plastic can enter and pass through the food chain. We worked in groups to create pictures of different marine food chains and presented them to the rest of the class.

Our next step is to learn more about recycling and how to cut down on our use of plastic to reduce plastic pollution.

P3 litter picking in the playground

Primary 4

Primary 4 have been learning to tell the time using analogue and digital clocks, recording 12hr times using am and pm and identifying 24hr notation.  They have also been using an empty number line to help them to calculate time durations to solve problems.

P2

Our STEM topic has been The Circus. We have been learning about money and sold tickets in the playground for our own Circus performance.

P5 camp fun

Here are some photos from camp if you missed the photos which were sent on Twitter.

P5 Fun!

The children who did not go to camp had lots of fun with Miss Mushet while the others were away! They made clay bombs which they put into the playground. The y designed and painted pots for some plants. On the Friday morning they had a teddy bears picnic!

Primary 6 – ‘Positive Pumphy’

What were we learning?

  • To explore the impact on our local area of smoking.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would gather evidence of smoking in the local area and begin to consider its impact.

What did we do?

We took a walk around our school area (the school itself, the pump track and playpark) and gathered evidence of smoking – this could be cigarettes, lighters, packets or melted items. We found a lot more than we thought we would!

Our next step is to visit each class to show them a short clip about what we plan to do next. Each child in the school will be given a questionnaire to take home and we would really appreciate it if adults at home could fill it in. Everyone will receive a Dojo point for taking it home, and an extra one for bringing it back!

Internet safety in P7

During internet safety week we looked at how we use the internet, especially social media.  We spent a lot of time looking at ways of  keeping ourselves safe.  We discussed different  scenarios and what to do if someone contacts us and it makes us feel uncomfortable.  We learned how to report inappropriate contact or behaviours and who we can talk to about these inappropriate  behaviours.  We created lists as reminders for ourselves.
