Primary 7’s week

Lots of great learning took place in P7 this week.

In Numeracy, we have been revising addition and subtraction of larger numbers and how to use a formal written method. We then used what we had learned and applied it to real world problems. We started with problems using one operation and quickly moved on to problems using more than one operation.

In Literacy, we continued to look at different types of procedures and our focus this week, was recipes. We wrote a plan for our own ultimate sandwich recipe. We will write and illustrate them next week. While we were talking about our ideas for favourite sandwiches we began to feel very hungry 🙂

In Science, we were making circuits with leads, batteries and lights then we had to introduce a switch.

In our IDL topic we are continuing to research Chinese celebrations and festivals as well as looking at our own Scottish ones.

All in all a very busy and enjoyable week.

Have a great weekend everyone.

P6 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 6 we have tried to link our topic to all areas of our learning (where possible).

We have been learning about the Respiratory System and how this works effectively to help us live. We were set a STEM challenge to see if we could re-create the breathing system using a set amount of materials after identifying all of the organs involved and their purpose. We had lots of fun with this task!

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we have continued learning about living and non-living things. We thought about how living things were similar and different and learned about the different animal categories before completing a sorting animals task . We then created an animal classification key to show the differences between the different groups.

.

We have also been working really hard on our common words with lots of us moving up a block making Miss McGregor very proud! Super Work Primary 2 🙂

Primary 2/1 Weekly blog

Primary 2/1  have been learning about electricity this term. They explored whether objects are battery, mains powered or solar powered. They have thought about how much they depend on electricity in their daily lives and made a pictogram to show their electricity use each morning. We found out that lots of people use an electric toothbrush!

P5 week beginning 14th of March 2022

This week the children were writing a procedure about their gravity investigation.

They were able to plan this correctly, They were able to meet all of their success criteria:

  • write in the correct chronological order: title / goal / materials / steps
  • to use bullet points and numbers
  • to sequence their steps in the correct order
  • to use present tense
  • to illustrate their work

Primary 2

Last week in primary 2 we started our new topic on living and non-living things. We spoke about how they are different and what living things can/ need to do. We sorted living and non-living things into categories and then designed posters to show what living things are. We have started to put together our new display wall to showcase our learning.

This week P2/1 have been investigating the different stages in the life cycle of a butterfly. We wrote about the different stages and drew pencil drawings of butterflies. We then coloured our drawings  in with bright colours, remembering to make the patterns and colours symmetrical. We enjoyed taking part in butterfly yoga, moving our bodies through the different stages of the butterfly life cycle.

P6 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 6 we have been focusing on the layout and presentation of our work. This has been something that we highlighted when self and peer assessing our work across all areas of the curriculum.

Literacy – We have been working on our joined handwriting and investigating nouns and proper nouns. This is something that we initially found tricky but we have picked up well. We have focused on how to use a dictionary effectively to assist us with learning and expand our vocabularies.

Maths – We have been focusing on how to collect information and the different ways in which it can be presented. We have gathered our own information and explored how to present this in bar graph and pictorial format.

PE – We have completed our block on handball and took part in a class tournament. We focused on team work, positive communication and enjoying ourselves.

Topic – We looked further into the process of digestion, explaining what happens at the different stages and we will be moving on to the respiratory system across the final stages of this term. This week we also celebrated International Womens Day.

Languages – This week we had Jess teaching Spanish greetings, numbers and colours. We are thoroughly enjoying learning different languages and are building up a bank of knowledge!

Have a  lovely weekend 🙂

Week beginning 7th March

P5 STEM Topic

This week the children were investigating gravity. They used Newton metres to measure the pull of gravity on a range of materials. Then they had to record their results in a table. Their next steps is to write a procedure about this experiment. They are training to be the scientists of the future!
